any chance of a treasure and rare items section on the sms boards ? ive noticed anything thats sms related which concerns rare items or strange objects regarding the sms all seem to get dumped in the games section ! ,now the games section should just be about "playing the games" so just maybe a section just for oddities and rarities is needed

Lets hear what everyone else thinks, i dunno maybe we would be better off with a "rarity discussion" forum? that would allow more stuff to be put in there. Thing is we don't really want to start taking everything out of the games forum (its always been the main one) and many of people like things "all-in-one"
Lets here some other peoples opinions on this first.
I personally think a rarity discussion area would be cool.

As a general rule, less is more when it comes to forums - get them too fragmented and they start to look inactive if there's only one or two posts in each.
However, the rarity forum might be an idea - it would be a good place to discuss the upcoming rarity list (hopefully I'll get a chance to post the WIP list over the weekend).
Might be better called "Collector's forum" or something, though - not everything will be strictly related to rarity.

This also is my worry about adding more and more forums, especially looking at the little used forums just now such as "Fan Fiction" and "Emulation" - these forums have never really took off, nobody here really seems to be interested in fan fiction (seems to be limited to very younger sorts) and Emulation has and will always be the domain of SMS Power! It may actually be an idea to get rid of one of those forums or if we decide to create this "collectors forum"

Rarities or collectors discussion would be pretty cool. It can be quite a subjective issue so a little debate would maybe iron out people's queries.

very good idea. and i agree with getting rid of the emulation and the fan fiction sections.
its quality, not quantity.

Another plus is that having all the answers in one place like that may help stop the same questions being asked over & over.

Yeah this is a good point. Although I always would encourage people to ask questions whenever they feel like it, the board is for talking; sometimes a new user can come along and re-kindle the enthusiasm, even if they are asking the same questions we already answered. The last thing we want is a "l33t" SMS community that says “n00b that was asked already 2 years ago!” - This discourages new users from coming to the forum (not that I think anyone would behave like that here). Maybe the way ahead with this lies in a forum FAQ being stickied at the top? One of us could make a post, and as we see repeated questions being asked on the forum, paste whatever answers we get into it.
Lets get a few more peoples ideas for this forum before we do anything.
Also do you think we should rid ourselves of the emulation and/or fan fiction forums?

the Emulation section's never been up to too much - I don't imagine there's a lot of interest in there. Fan Fiction is mainly dormant now, but it might be worth moving some of the quite interesting threads within (pictures, stories, good ideas, an insight into past posts) to another section of the boards before demolishing it. How about a link on the main site that takes you directly to an archive of the old segamastersystem.com pages (including that animation with Sonic and Alex at the start)? It was after all the predecessor of SMSTributes, and gave birth to this forum. I'm sure people would like to see it, and if you're using the old URL you might as well put the archive somewhere handy for searchers. It is sort of depressing in a way that a creative section, for Fan Art and such, should eventually make way for a forum wholly dedicated to RARE STUFF, RARE STUFF, RARE STUFF!!!!!!!! Collectors aren't the be-all and end-all, but they'll get well catered for here. Could do with a little more imagination and pure nostalgia to colour things here and there, a few of the game reviews lack a bit of fizz too.

The website history thing is on the cards to do for sure. But there is one major problem that stops us. I'm not sure if shinobiman has kept all the the files for the old site, tbh i doubt he has Either way there will be a page on the new site about the old sms.com - the whole site is pretty much temp until we get content and database structure organised more tightly. And the main problem is as always time to get these things done. SMS TRIBUTES will become SMS.com - but there is a bit of a problem at the moment because sms.com domain is tied to its hosting account. And i before the site was to be renamed sms.com had just purchased 2 years of hosting with streamline.net, so main problem we have at the moment with renaming the site is that it will cost a fair bit to re-allocate the sms.com domain to my webspace, and the domain doesnt have long to go till it lapses anyway so there is no point in shelling out more money at the moment for such a short time. Its easy to moan about the fan fiction sections being empty etc, but would you agree that nobody here including yourself mr t has really shown an interest in them? I personally don't know why this is. on various nes sites theres loads of people making up little flash animation movies with their fave nes characters etc, but SMS folk don't seem to do this The reviews are what the writers have submitted, all i can say is that if you don't like the way they are writing then maybe you could set and example for them all to follow
