It's not my favorite, but it's a cool experience

one of my favourites, I had it built in my SMSII
the game was amazing, I remember being stuck for ages in the last castle... until I figured I could avoid the underwater spines maze by using the flying stick

Alex Kidd in Miracle World is truly an all time classic and certainly as good, if not better, than the original SMB. It's a pity the sequels didn't really evolve the series much. one of my favourites, I had it built in my SMSII the game was amazing, I remember being stuck for ages in the last castle... until I figured I could avoid the underwater spines maze by using the flying stick The underwater spike room in the last castle is an absolute nightmare. I think I did manage to get through there once unaided, but usually I use the cane to fly over. I remember when I defeated Janken the Great for the first time. I couldn't believe that there was another level after him!

As a kid, I used to be able to get to that point without dying then lose about 14 lives trying to get past that part.
The annoying thing is: I now know that getting past the spikes is very simple. If you make literally no effort to avoid the spikes, you can just bounce off them and not get hurt.

I loved this game as a kid and this was probably the most time I spent on any game during my pre teen years. I remember finishing this game a number of times, and that satisfaction of beating it always felt the same each time.

I never could beat it as a kid. Not until I grew tired of my Genesis in the late 90's and dug out the old Master System again. The Red Castle level. Never could beat it as a kid. I remember getting up and hour before I'd have to get ready for school every day just to play this game. Even though it always kicked my ass (never even got to Janken the Great) I loved playing that game over and over...

It's actually not that difficult once you figure out that you just have to navigate Alex between those spikes, he will stuck between them, so don't press up or down, just carefully swimm him through it. It's really not that difficult. I think most people just think they have to press up and down so to avoid the spikes. It's funny that in all Youtube reviews the people complain about that game being too difficult and challenging. I never had much problems, except that level i the forrest (where you fight the blue bear in the end), it has some tricky jumps made worse by the gamepad, you sometimes slip and fall into the spikes.

It may well be earlier in this thread, but learning how to use L/R on the Sukopako Motorcycle makes the forest stage very easy indeed.

I could never kill the octopus in this game, and get to the secret area. Rumors about being able to do this were rife in my school at the time, I could never do it though... Come to think of it, I still cant!

I remember finding the hidden level under the octopus. And I had NO idea it was there... I think I was just trying an SMB thing, just seeing if I could go down the 'tube'. Was completely I amazed when it worked. I noticed on the Map screen it showed me on a different Island then you would normally go to on the next level, plus there was a third island in that pond. Tried and tried and tried to find a way to it. Years later checking the internet I realized there was no way to get to the third island...
