Time for the next little baby for us to play. I'm quite excited about this one because I've been meaning to give it a go, what's it going to be? I know but you don't and I'm not telling. Give to us snow.

I know that you know that I know, that he knows and she knows that I know you're cheating on me. I know you know that I know nothing about nothing.

Know this that in knowing you know what I know is knowing about how one comes to know and the knowing itself knows within its own knowness in order to achieve knowledge.

There are very few games for Master System fans with a God complex, but this is one of them. It appeared with great success on many platforms, and while not exactly the first of its kind, it grabbed attention in a way that no other had before -- luckily we later got an excellent conversion which retained much of what made the original such a success while also managing to include added content. It's the hugely influential and challenging: Populous! You take the roll of the "Good" god who must oversee and protect a tribe of his followers, opposed by an equally capable Evil god with his own followers. Survival is managed through using your powers to alter the landscape and make it more hospitable for your followers, who can then create settlements and breed, increasing your strength further to levels where you can also create earthquakes, volcanoes, knights, and ultimately invoke Armageddon for one final fight to the death. All the while, the Evil god is opposing you with a tribe of his own, eager to also build his strength and see to your downfall. I put "Good" in quotations because there's little chance of progress in this game without being ruthless and murderous, it doesn't really promote world peace! The gameplay is very simple at the start but strategies can show themselves after a while, making it easy to get into but providing enough depth needed for the 5000 levels. There are several landscape types and varying conditions for each level. Raise and lower the land to make it flat and debris-free, the wandering followers will then build huts, towns and castles and more followers will emerge from them. Use the newly acquired powers to disrupt the enemy tribe and then, when everything is in your favour, attack and kill every last one of them. It can take a while to get used to the controls, obviously they don't work as well as when using a mouse, but they're good enough for moving around the maps with some ease after a while. And there's no in-game music at all, it's all very quiet. 5000 levels is a lot.. and rightfully daunting, more levels than versions prior to the SMS conversion had, but depending on how exactly each level is won, one or a few can be skipped each time. Each level has a password too, but no cheating now. It's a great game that I find rewarding and fun so I hope a lot will jump on with this choice and post their progress and quirks (such as the one of reducing the enemy to one square in a corner, then taking time to add some character to the landscape and settlements). Enjoy!

Ok I must confess that I've only ever played this game once, it just seemed so long and daunting that I gave up after 5 minutes! I will try to read the manual and get stuck into the game this weekend. I'm not one for the strategy based games, although I still like playing Theme Park now and again.
Is this game better than Rampart which I found very dull and boring???

I've been meaning to play this for awhile, I merely tested it out once. I'm not sure what it's like, but it seems to be a world-building game, which is perhaps my favorite genre (games like Pharoah or Caesar III). It's a bit different than that, but I'd say slightly more complex than Tyrants/Megaolmania, if you know that game.

Hmm, interesting choice - it's a game that isn't really talked about much, but it's a very very good strategy game! I might have a lengthier go at it when I get time, been quite a while since it's been in the old cartridge slot!

A fantastic choice. I've been waiting for this one to be talked about more for a fair while! I got this game back when it first came out - it got some pretty good reviews but the whole idea of being god greatly appealed to me back then Time goes on and some things change, others don't. I still love this game. The early levels are very easy, but get onto some of the later levels and you'll begin finding the CPU to be a much more challenging opponent. It's funny, I've not played this game in about a year and still I can remember the second level code is hurtoutord

Great game, I've been playing it the past few days and I must say I'm impressed. My only gripe is no soundtrack during actual play, but the complexity and fun of the actual gameage more than makes up for it, well almost. I'm currently on Nifihill, the computer blasted me with the damn volcano skill. spiderpig.
