This new, improved game of the week is the legitimate elder brother to one of the most bragged about SMS games. But this one's keeping it real. This one doesn't need to cost £150 to have a sense of self worth. It's secure in itself - and rightly so.







What choo talking 'bout Tonto? I'm talking about Smurfs Arnold.

Anyway this little bad boy ticks all the boxes for a top cartooney platform game. Sweet tunes, tick. Nice controls, tick. Tasty graphics, tick. Tricky parts, tick. See, plenty of good box ticking there.

Anyhoo, you play Hefty Smurf (don't recall him from the telly) who has to rescue Smurfs Jokey and Brainy along with token female, Smurfette. All of whom have all been captured by Gargamel (boo!)

It's classic platform scenario, but it plays out beautifully. The controls are smooth and the graphics are bright, bold and well drawn, yeah it's all good. It also has those parts (I'm thinking leaves on the swamp stage here) where you just have to really give it some concentration to get through, proper manic jumping etc. Ace!

So there you have it. Your REAL game of the week.

Cool game, and pretty damn tough. I remember the swamp level being a beast.

Anyone ever noticed the pic on the back of the box shows a dog in Gargamel's house? In the final game it's Azrael, so the pic must be from an earlier version of the game.

Just checked the box and it looks pretty much like Azrael to me. Maybe there's different pics on different versions?

BTW stan, why have you removed all posts relating to my original administrative cock up? Makes the beginning of my Smurfs post look a bit odd.

Out Run blue label high, must be it. This game is tough. Is it just me? Freaking swamp level kicks my ass every time. I can't seem to stay on the stupid vines. Damn it.

I quite like this game, I just can't get very far I either keep falling into the water trying to get on a stork or mis-time the frogs heads in the swamps. Very bloody frustrating!

Yeah, that's where I'm stuck. The stork part is damn hard until you get used to it. The vines in the swamp are all slippery or something.

Well neither of the next two games replied, so currently we'll keep playing Smurfs.
