Grolt did you actually do all the tasks to finish this?
I've finished it quite a few times, but i never get the third task (destroy the statue of evil) instead I arrive to do battle with it, and it's simply gone. then I just waltz into Varlin castle and get crowned, even though I haven't done everything the elders ask for.

Did you get the same ending? I fought the statue just fine when I got to it, there's just a glitch in the game but I forget how it functions. I think if you get there with something you need before you get something else, it somehow deactivates the code and screws it up, but if you wait it will come alive and you fight it.

I had some problems with the Medusa statue too, but I did fight it. I never knew you could just finish without fighting it, but near the end it does seem like you can get away with a lot depending on who you speak to. Like with Medusa, I got there with the herb required to bring her to life, but then nothing happened. I went all the way back to the Almo village, or whatever, and talked again to the guy I had talked to 10 times just prior to heading there, and upon talking to him again he told me to go visit her. Another triggering glitch, I guess.
In looking at some walkthroughs, I'm noticing that near the end the order doesn't really seem to matter - there are multiple ways you can finish it. That's pretty cool, but I imagine in allowing that there are tons of loopholes since there are so many different permutations and combinations with which you can finish the game.
Sini, did you do all the other stuff at the end, like go into the cave and defeat the final boss, or the fire beast guy?

Well, the way I played it through I think the final boss was the Goblin, (guy in the mansion in Shagart) But I do remember killing a winged creature before casting the book into the mountain of fire, and fighting with the necromancer (guy with the mirror in the chest at the swamp) I also remember fighting in a cave against what looked like a witch? a woman who throws 3 skulls at you? It's been a while since I played it, but when I get a bit of time I'll go through again and map out the way I went.

Something else I'm interested to see is how the book of evil being stolen by the "book thief" effects the ending. Anyone finished it in this circumstance?

I think the only thing burning the book does it allow you to get the Luna sword. If you don't have it then I'd assume everything would just play out as normal. There is a small cut screen when you do throw the book in, so it would be interesting to see if that no longer happens if the book is stolen. I know there's that other weapon that you can get later in the game that's actually *worse* than the Luna sword, so I imagine the programmers saw it more as an extra than a necessity. If you can test it out though, that would be interesting to know!

Man, LOTS sounds ace when being described. I'm going to have to give it another try. Always thought it was a pile of cack but can't be giving it a decent chance.

It has its faults, but I had a lot of fun with it personally. I like these kinds of games. Really if they had made his sword more awesome looking I probably would have thought it was awesome overall. As I say in my one review, it looks like he's hitting the ground with a golf club. Really should have given him some awesome swordage.

Boy, that was back in the days when my reviews tended to be uber lengthy. Now, I've cut them down to be shorter, but if the game sucks bad enough I go off pretty good.

Grolt, I'm interested in the route you've taken through this game. Just now I'm playing through the game again (except on emulator to record a video and take screenshots) I'd be interested in putting together a "shrine" to this game for the site. If you could document your route to completion it would be a great help.
For recording I'm using Dega emulator (v 1.09) and using Windows Media Encoder to capture my video. When I have a complete video I'll upload it for all to see.

Heh, I had a plan for the vast majority of my quest, but once I had those aforementioned problems with Medusa I just sort of ran around until I found a character or cave I hadn't been to yet. Lots of back tracking and genuine frustration. I'll try to remember it all though and post it. I think the color scheme of the boards should be altered to shades of green to commemorate the occasion.
Great idea about the video, by the way!

Sinistral is a gaming god. That tutorial was awesome, and very interactive too, it was nice seeing all those bosses in huge pixelated glory once more. Lots of great tips, too. Lord of the Sword fans, rejoice!
