Hi everyone sorry for the delay, I had a difficult time picking my Game Of The Week but finally I came up with.............
HOME ALONE!!!!
The simple fact is that I totally love it! Let's face it's a very unique game, I could have picked any of the countless platform games but I thought I'd pick something which is a little bit different.
The idea of Home Alone is to locate and hide valuables such as rings and vases in a safe which are scattered around various houses. Not only do you have a very short time limit, you also have the two burglars known as "The Water Bandits" and the family dog out to get you!
Fortunately the young brat "Kevin" has a pellet gun for protection and ammuntion can be picked up throughout the different houses. If you don't collect the items quickly enough, one of the robbers will pick them up instead and make it quickly for the front door. If either "Harry" or "Marv" manage to leave the house you lose a life, however you can cause them to drop an item by shooting them.
Although you only have a short time limit, "Kevin" moves around pretty quickly. You can jump down from floor to floor without using the stairs and jump back up using anything bouncy from arm-chairs to the parent's bed! The two burglars move fast too and it's easy to get stuck in a corner, you can jump over them but make any contact and you lose a life. A nice touch when you do is a still from the film with the caption "What are we gonna do with him Marv" where kevin is hung on a coat peg. Another nice touch is the ability to hide behind closed doors so the bandits walk by, just like in Rolling Thunder!
Like most things, the game starts off easy with you only have to find and store 1 item at first but believe me it's gets more difficult! Due to the short time limit and the ability to only carry three items at a time, some strategy is involved. It may take you a couple of goes to figure which item to pick up first and the best route to take.
The game comprises of 29 levels and has 6 different themed houses which include Haunted, Fun and Power. Two things you'll notice instantly are the jolly music and the bright graphics that each level is made up of. The programmers have definitely used a large selection of the Master System colour palette in this game!
Just collecting objects and jumping around isn't everyone's idea of fun, but once you finish a level you think to yourself "well I'll just see if I can complete the next house" and you end up playing all night!
At the end of the day Home Alone has great graphics and is also very challenging, I haven't managed to get past level 20 in easy mode! It's also one of those games which is really easy to get into and is great to have a quick go on now and again.
Of course I'll probably get some criticism for my choice. I was actually going to pick Streets Of Rage 2 as my GOW but that would have been too controversial! Ah well maybe next time...

Glad ya could make it Good choice too! I've been meaning to sit down and have a proper go of this since I got it a couple of months back but haven't had the chance to. I've heard good things about it, which was kinda surprising given the licence I'll only have a couple of days though, since I'm not around over the weekend. Better get cracking...

I've not played it that much, but my initial impressions were that it was terrible. Awkward controls, not much happening, just kinda boring. I gave up after an hour or so of fruitless meandering.
Maybe I got the very rare and highly sought after 'shyt' version of the game, but maybe not. Either way I'll try and give this a go to see if my oppinion can be swayed.

Just had half an hour or so, and it is really good fun once you get the hang of bouncing around the place and dodging the baddies. Shame it's glitchy as hell at 60Hz, though Is there anything I might be missing by not having a manual? Seems pretty straightforward so far. Does the food do anything, or is that just points?

Well, looks like I'm forced to pull out the old Power Base converter now.

Yeah collecting food just gives you extra points. I don't think the controls are terrible, it's really easy to grasp. It's a very simple game in essence like Teddy Boy, I didn't say it was the best ever game or anything. You find if you give most games a chance you can get some sort of enjoyment out of it. I don't know what it is with Home Alone, but I really really enjoy it and that's all that matters.
