Well, takes a bit of time to get used to it. Here's a tip, first run around and get an idea of where all the coffins are. Try to ONLY attack enemies by jumping on them, I'll explain why in a sec. Then, keep walking around. When you see a dagger-like object flying at you, jump on top of it and you'll collect it. You need this, and a key (which you get from killing a random monster) to take on the Dracs. Once you open the coffin, just take your time hitting the bat and or Drac in real form. Three hits in the first level and they're done. Kill all five, collect the treasures they leave, and exit da house. Now then, make sure to try to save the dagger thing ONLY for the Dracs, because you can only swing that shizniat like 10 times or so. Thus, if you kill enemies with it you'll eventually lose it and have to find one again. Jump on them instead. It's a great game, in my opinion. When I first played it awhile ago I was like what the, because it was a bit hard to get into. I love everything about it, the graphics, the music, even the funny little squeaking sound of the little chap's feet. The similarities between the levels really didn't bother me. I mean, if you look at early NES greats, like Ice Climber, all the levels are essentially the same, it's the gameplay that gets you, just excellent. But, and that was a good example, the only problem I have with Ghost House is the controls. For the love of god why did they program some games with reversed buttons where the jump button is on the left instead of the right? It's just not a natural feeling set-up. Oh well, I love this game. Must beat. How many levels are there?

Another way of killing a Dracula which I find quite effective is to get the knife and open a coffin. Whilst Drac is flying around as a bat position yourself under the nearest lightbulb. When he either transform into his human form or if the bat is at the same height as your character jump and headbutt the lightbulb. This causes every enemy on the screen to freeze including the Drac allowing you to just run up to him and stab away. Useful if you forgot to get a knife.

Always loved this awesome little game, i used to be able to kill the draculas with ease, but going back now its a bit more difficult than i remember, like Neil says, the best idea is to find a place where the knife flies at you and collect one, i open the coffin and while its opening make for the nearest light bulb and hit it just as he comes out. I'm stuck on the "green wallpaper" house level now. - it seems i can defeat the dracula, but picking up his heart always seems to revive him

Are you on the first green level or second, i think the second green level is last from memory.

HOLY CRAP GOOD GOD IN HEAVEN!!!! I have found the coolest thing ever in this game!!! I was on level four, trying to bide some time while I looked around for life to refill my bar and figure out which Drac to take out next. By this level, the little arrows that fly at you come FAST, so I decided at one point to jump on a bunch for points to get an extra life (if you jump correctly and land on them, you get 100 points). So I did this for awhile, about 15 times to be exact, and BOOM!!!! The screen gets weird and the little chap's head starts blinking like lightening. I think, what the glitch? Turns out he has become INVINCIBLE!!! I figure, oh man, total glitch, but cool, and then it goes away. So, just to make sure I do it again, and BOOM it happens again. Thus, hop on 15 arrows and you become temporarily invincible!!!!! Note that this does not make you invincible to DRACK ATTACKS, but it will make everything else mute. It lasts quite awhile and totally rules! Try it out!

I've had a similar thing happen on level one. You jump about on the knives and then everything starts flashing yellow and all the enemies freeze. It doesn't last that long though.

RetroReserve mentioned the invincibility in his initial post in this thread.

Didn't even notice, and now I see it's five in a row, not 15. Awesome.
