20 weeks already, eh? Doesn't time fly Here we are rapidly approaching the end of 2004, and I have full faith that Raccoon Lad is going to knock us all out with some under-appreciated gem this week... btw, anyone worried about not knowing what to play over Christmas *cough*Stan* will no doubt be pleased to hear that Retrobob will be stepping up to take the turn he missed earlier on. Huzzah!

Though you may look at my avatar, and think my choice would be obvious, it isn't. Sure, Fantasy Zone II is one of the best games ever, but for a Game of the week, I think we should go with something more obscure, and so for my Game of the Week, I choose: Dynamite Dux! [img src="http://potato.emu-france.com/sms/images/Dynamite_Dux_(UE)_[!].gif"] Dynamite Dux is fun, has exellent music (composed by Hiroshi Miyauchi, who you might recognise from: Outrun, Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, Quartet, Afterburner, Dynamite Dux, Eduro Racer, Hang On, and Power Drift amongst others), and it's easy enough for anyone to beat. Even though they took out the Colonel Sanders refereed boxing match that was in the arcade, they left the Colonel Sanders statue at the beginning of round 1.

Great choice! I really like this one but, then again, I think it's impossible not to like a game that features blue ducks with bazookas and King Penguins It's got nice colourful graphics and a good selection of enemies, though it is a bit on the easy side - the food is fairly plentiful and most enemies go down with one hit. The bountiful supply of weapons and the super-punch also mean the bosses don't pose too much of a challenge. I've just had a quick go, and got to the end of Round 4 on one credit. Shouldn't be too hard to go further when I get a chance.

Awesome game. This was, in fact, one of the first PAL games I picked up and the first I played. Dynamite Dux is an odd little game that reminds me of mixing one of the many classic "run around and punch and kick crap" arcade games of the 90s (like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). I forget the story, but I know you've been changed into a duck by an evil wizard or something to that effect. You run around and punch enemies, and if you hold in the button you'll charge up a super punch that takes out nearly everything. You also get some neat weapons now and then that you can use for limited time periods. The graphics are splendid, very nice. I think this game was one of the reasons why I decided to really get into the SMS and collect/play more games than I originally intended to. I forget what the music is like, but I seem to remember enjoying it. There is only one real problem, and he already mentioned it up there. This game is WAY TOO EASY. I flew through it in about 15 minutes, if that. It's not very long, and they repeat some of the bosses. Basically you just stay back on most of them and power up the super punch. Takes care of them fast. Other than that, it's a fun game, I enjoyed it, it just needed to be a bit more difficult.

Good good. One of the first three cartridges I got for my master system, 12 years or so back - Sonic, Space Harrier and this. Beautiful

This game surprised me. I picked it up at a flea market for 2$. It´s a pretty good beat´em-up with some unique features. Fun, but very easy and short, I finished it on my second try in less than an hour!

If you're looking for a game to walk through on your first ever attempt in half an hour then this is that title. Not bad gameplay, just not many moves or much variety.

Nice little Game, but nothing i would play a second time. Its not challenging enough. The intro reminds me a bit of Alex Kidd in Shinobi World...

That's a very good point, it's almost a complete rip-off. Shinobi World is like a good sausage - tasty and satisfying, but really just made up of any old crap mashed together ;D
Have any recent, modern videogames used the old girlfriend-abduction plot that was so popular in the 80s?

For some reason I just dont like this game much. Its cute, colourful, fairly easy... Statistically, being a girl and all, I should love it...
But i think its quite boring. But the weaponery you can use is one of the redeemable features.

No, as far as i remember i don't thinkt there is a newer game using this storytype. Maybe except for FarCry, its not really the girlfried, but this dumb girl get caught and you must rescue here (Maybe Spoiler) she gets transformed into a Mutant, its funny and i really hoped at the end the girl woud rip this dumb idiot (you play) into little pieces ;D

Finally got the chance to have another go at this tonight, and strolled through it on a credit. I can't help but like it, even though it would struggle to pose a challenge to a lobotomised monkey. I've a couple more comments after going through again:
- Does anyone know how the alternate paths open? After the mid-boss on most levels there's a barrier preventing you from going either up or down, and I've had either path blocked to me - is it based on how quickly you kill the mid-boss or something?
- Is it just me, or is the flying kick worse than useless? I took damage just about every time I tried it.
- The manual states that extra lives are awarded every 15,000 points, which is nonsense. I only noticed getting one extra after going all the way through (or can you just not go above 2 lives?)
- no 2-player mode? It's generally a staple in games of this type. Anyone know if it present in the arcade game?
Right... onto Castle of Illusion...
