Hi all, this is my first post here so i'll try not be too boring Do you remember the time when the megadrive had just caught on and we began to see some of the most shoody conversions of 16bit games released on the master system? if so what do yous think were the worse ones? mine are: 1. Mortal Kombat - This just never should have been released. 2.Desert Strike - Could have been good, but its impossible to aim. 3.Pit fighter- I rec'd this for my birthday back in 1991, i felt like hitting my parents with it. 4.Terminator- What is this all about? megadrive version was great? but this just plain sucks 5.Shadow dancer - has anyone managed to get by the 3rd level in this game? i'd be very surprised. impossibe learning curve spoils what could have been a great sms game. What do you guys think?

Mmm...I´m think who is the worst sms conversion and I says ALTERED BEAST.The graphics and sounds are good, but the damned playability is terrible... I try to complete the game and it´s very very hard... Also ALIEN STORM have a good grapx and sounds. But the playability says "This game sux".

What! The SMS version of Terminator was much better, the MD version is too easy. If you want a real challenge, try finishing the GG version, it's SOLID.

Not sure about the cut-down Megadrive games, but when I think 'shoddy SMS conversions' the first thing I think is Rainbow Islands. I mean, come on, even the NES version dumps on it!

Rainbow Island is a bit dodgy but not the worst. Altered Beast is terrible so is Smash TV. I really hate that game!

Strider! It's one of the best action games ever on Arcade and MegaDrive/Genesis, but totally unplayable on Master System.

i always hated how the SMS Golden Axe only had Ax Battler as the playable character and no 2-player mode. heck, even the Amstrad CPC version has a 2-player mode! so i would say Golden Axe.

3.Pit fighter- I rec'd this for my birthday back in 1991, i felt like hitting my parents with it. ------------------------------------------- Don't mean to be picky, but are you sure that was '91? I don't the MS version came out until '92/'93.
And yes it was terrible.

Let's not forget the brazil games:
got MK3 and SF2 and some more tectoy games lying around here, not that's what you call a bad conversion.
Nice attempt at SF2 though, it's actually fun with 2 players, MK3 sucks on sms bigtime.
But for EU/US games, I'd go for altered beast.

I acutally liked golden axe warrior, even though as you say it didnt have the two other characters or the two player mode, but i dont think the MS had a hack and slash fighter like that when it came out. so it did appeal.
As for the exact release date of pit fighter (one of the worst games on the ms imo) i honetly yhink i got it in 1991, the back of the box says (c) 1991 tengen inc. doesnt matter really. mabey it was released in the UK first ? it does say "sega from domark" on the box and not tengen.

To me MK3 and Super Smash TV are not only one of the worst arcade convertions ever made but also two of the worst SMS games ever made. As to the allegations that Desert Strike and the terminator are one of the worst conversions, i have to strongly desagree. I Have both games for both machines, and i consider them remarcably good, especialy Desert Strike. I respect every opinion but i can see how to games with excellent graphics, sound and playability can be considered worst then the likes of Dragon, MK3, Crush Dummies...

lol, well its not an allegation, its a personal oppinion, just as you are entitled to yours so am i. personally i enjoyed dragon and wouldnt say that was a bad game. Even though games may be a poor conversion it doesnt make them a bad game in their own right.
I think the reason i was so dissopointed with terminator and desert strike was because back when they came out all my friends had the megadrive versions, i still had the master system, and got frustrated by how unlike the games were. i own both those games on megadrive now too, and i can honestly say they are alot better. especially the megacd version of terminator.
Tbh i think alot more could have been done on the master system at this point, no effort was put into production of the games, terminaotr for example didnt have the big machine thingy at the start of the games 1st level, things were generally just misssed out that could have been put in. As was the same with the sonic games on the master system. I remember reading in SMS UK magazine that the reason for the loop the loops being missed out in sonic was that the master system wasnt powerful enough, this was later disproved by sonic chaos. yet sonic 1 and two on the sms remain great games despite this shortfall.
