Hi community of sms lovers! Sorry about my bad english I ll hope you can understand me Let introduce me: Well Im a big vetteran fan of videogames (mainly a fan of sega stuff), I had a master system many years ago and for some time I played it and enjoy it but some years later I sold it ( big error lol) and I bought a sega genesis, the problem was that here the sms games was very difficult of find here in that years. Today my bro and me we have many consoles as xbox, ps2, dreamcast (one of my favorites), sega genesis, but some time ago I become more interested in retro gamming, particulary with my loved sega master system. In fact recently I got a sms II again because Im nostalgic, And I now I enjoy with the built in game alexx kid in miracle world. Very cool game indeed... Even more, I got a tototek sms pro ( a device which let me write roms from my pc to my master system) and now I can play all that missed sms games and demos in a real sms!!! Also Im learning about programming for the sms and now I can run my little demos in my sms Well, Im a begginer in programming and my demos are very simple and basic but I enjoy it too much ^.^ And I keep dreaming about create a game some day for my sms... And that is my story... Long life to the sega master system!

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It's nice to see yet more people developing for the SMS, too. :)

Welcome to the forum! I think you're our first Mexican member. Though please anybody correct me if I'm wrong. Would love it if you could tell us about how the master system did when it was released over there from a first hand view! Did many of your friends have the console? Was it popular in comparison to other video games at the time in your area? Did you find the games to be widely available?

Well the mine is not a happy history...The sms here in Mexico like in USA was nothing popular and games was terrible difficult of find...But the master system was a very misterious system here. Nintendo was the widely the choice for game in house. However, ironically for that years sega arcades was terribly popular in Mexico (Maybe 1986 -1991 ...? ), so sega system was almost a mitic leyend here because I listened about rumors in my school about a superior sega system. So I must found it! And I was looking for it! And I did! I found it in a second hand store... A sega master system!!!...I saw the game rocky and I was impressed with the graphics of rocky and pick it the system with shinobi also. Some time after that I bought black belt and altered beast and played to much. I remember also that my sister give me phantasy star as a present in a christmas and I keep today that game with their box and instructions (I sold my system and got a genesis but for some reason I didnt sell that game...) and got choplifter also....coool!
Some time later I found other boy with a master system near of my house and we exchange games and I can saw the games r-type (coool) , outrun and maze hunter with 3d glasses!!
After that the genesis arrived and was very popular in Mexico And I used my saves and I got one. (cool!!!)
Maybe one of the reasons for my obseession with the sega master system is that the games here was terribly hard of find. And many years later with invention of of internet I looked by information about the master system and I was surprised that the sms was very popular in europe and brasil...What afortunate people!!! I think that in capital city in south mexico the master system was more popular than my region because I remember that I saw commercials of capital city channels of tv of games of sega for rent, but capital city is terribly far of my region so I cant say how so popular could be the master system there.
Well but for my the sega master system always was for me better than nes. Now In impressed how so good was some ports as james pond, road rash, aladdin for this system for far superoor than the nes...I played too much years later in emulator. A pity that here the sms was not popular....

Thank you very much for sharing your memories of the console from the time. I think it's very interesting to hear what you are saying about how difficult it was for you to find games, and also how Sega was very popular in the arcades but not in the console market in Mexico.
It really is fantastic that the Master system has so many fans still from all over the world - just a shame that Sega, who now are primarily in the game programming market for other consoles rather than making their own, wouldn't take notice of sites and forums like ours to show that there is still a small market out there even after more than a decade since suport for the system ceased.
