As with any community, it's good to know a little background on the fellow members you talk with. Please, sega8bit.com members, give yourself a little bio here so we'll know who you are. Thanks!
-----------------------
So you want to learn more about the guy behind the computer 'eh? Well, I was born in 1986 (Yes, I'm 20 years old) and I started my crusade into the world of gaming at the age of two with a local arcade game called Space Harrier. But you may ask yourself, "Why don't you call yourself HarrierMan then?" Well, if you were to actually say that name out loud, you might answer your own question.
My story is a little more simple compared to some other SMS fans out there. My first video game system was in fact (gasp) a Nintendo Entertainment System, and right now I want to set the record straight. I am what you call a gamer. I love anything dealing with the idea of "playing video games," so I still love both my NES and SMS. Anyway, as I said, I grew up having an NES in the house. My life from the age of 3-7 was mostly surrounded by admiration for video games and the ninja turtles.
So when did the fascination with the SMS start? Well, it started when I was two years old actually. The neighbors next door had one and I would constantly visit over there to play Ghostbusters. All I could do was drive the car back and forth while driving to the next destination, but that was all it took to seep the SMS into my head forever.
My house was robbed in 1991 and my Nintendo was stolen. I wanted to get another Nintendo, but because my dad happens to be a gamer as well, he knew we should get the Sega Genesis, and wait for the Super Nintendo to come out. For the longest time we only had those two consoles, the Genesis and the SNES. It wasn't until I questioned my dad about the Atari, that's when I truly became a gamer.
We ended up ordering an Atari in '94 from Telegames. That was the same year we spotted none other than the Sega Master System in a Kay Bee Toy's. For the cheap price of $20.00, of course we picked it up. Afterwards I really loved the system, and started finding information about it. I wanted to know everything.... why it failed, how many games came out.
I started learning so much about the system I had once been in touch with and I thought it would only be logical to start a website. At the time, believe it or not, there were many websites based entirely on the console. I had started a little page called "The Sega Master System Sector." Some of you might have gone there at one time.
But, if you had gone there, it was a miracle, because I go next to 0 hit's for the many month's it was up. I was losing hope in making a website. Then I thought to myself, "If you can't get hits from this AOL server, why not buy the domain?" That would prove to be the smartest move for me. My dad put up the money for the domain and I got to work Summer of '00. By the time November came around, segamastersystem.com was up. Simple looking but much better than my previous attempt.
Sadly, segamastersystem.com closed it's doors in 2005. It endured roughly 4 long years and was the website that this forum was created on.
Remember, it's you, the SMS fans who are Keeping the System Alive!

I guest that I should introduce myself brielfly then - In terms of segamastersystem.com, I've been lurking around on the site from time to time, rarely actually posting since the about January of this year. Nice to see the way the site is going with the new design.
In the terms of the MS, I go back to early '92, when I was living in the UK. Having saved up for _ages_ I bought a brand new MSII, my first console. Oh the happy days when I first scared of being killed by the monkeys on the forest stage of AKiMW... Time went on, and I bought ended up buying a Mega Drive, and then I received a 32X for Christmas '94! As time passed the MS was a bit neclected, and was eventually sold in '96 and year later even my MD and 32X went the same way.
But in '98 I discovered the site that is now alexkidd.com, and I was hooked on the retro bug. So I started building up a collection of all things Sega, which currently consists of most Sega consoles, and about 140 games, roughly a third of which are MS.
Keep the system alive!

Copy & paste from the SMS story section:
My name is Ervin Jay Acosta , i live in Puerto Rico were very few people owned the S.M.S. , My father gave it to me as a xmas present when i was 10, it had hang on built in! by that time i was pretty dissapointed cause i wanted a Nintendo. It just took a few hours to make me forget Nintendo and stick to my S.M.S. After a few week's my dad got me RAMBO II just (because the title i suppose). After that i started renting games at a local video store some of these games were shinobi, fantasy zone, ghost busters, wonder boy and after burner. We didnt have much of a choice here since very few video stores sold S.M.S. games. Later on my dad got me Alex kidd the lost stars, global defense and aztec adventure. in 92 i got a copy of miracle wariors and my t.v. set was broken so i tried to do a "homemade" A/V adapter to hook up the power base to my monitor but i ended up with a non working SEGA :-( . I gave away all my games (ignorant) and forgot about SEGA. One day i rememberd Phantasy Star (my first RPG) and started thinking of getting another SEGA and all the games that i always wanted!! You know the ones in the catalog!!! But i didnt know how so i just forgot about it. Now in SEP 2001 i started looking for the SEGA and i saw that it was very popular in Brazil, with games like mortal kombat 1, 2 & 3 and street fighter 2 .I was pretty surprised i never thought it had games like that for an 8-bit system. So i discoverd E-bay in JAN 2002 and got a S.M.S. II system and 7 games: PHANTASY STAR, CYBORG HUNTER, TIME SOLDIERS, CASINO GAMES, MIRACLE WARRIORS, CLOUD MASTER, SPELLCASTER & ALEX KIDD MW built in. Pretty good deal i didnt expect to get P.S. so fast. Today i have 4 S.M.S. and like 80 games, 3D glasses , light phaser, A/V CABLES!!!! (the ones i tried to make!!!) Got my own copy of mortal kombat I and ill be getting 2 & 3 this week!! Today im 23 , work as a software engineer for a small company here in P.R. and feel great cause i achieved my goal as a S.M.S. collector!!!

My name is Paul, and I live in San Jose, California, in the United States. I was born in August, 1986 and my first system was actualy a Commodore VIC-20 (it belonged to my father), and the first one I actualy owned was a Sega Genesis. It wasn't untill 1998 I even found out about the SMS. A local game store near where I lived was selling used ones for $35 so I picked one up. It came with 1 controller, 1 light phaser, Enduro Racer, and all the plugs. It was the 1988 model with Hang-On built in.
I played my SMS often, but I then bought the brand new Dreamcast and forgot about the SMS. In the next couple years, I became busy as a drummer in a local band. The band broke up and while in the process of looking for a new band I found my SMS and before I knew it, I began seriously collecting.
I now have 3 consoles (my old SMS 1, a US SMS 2, and a UK SMS 2), the converters that let you play them on Genesis and Game Gear, 3-D Glasses, and 55 games.
My current band and I are in the process of coming up with a name and we are also writing new songs. Then hopefully soon we'll launch a website. When I am not busy with that (like durring the week), I play my SMS.
This site rocks ShinobiMan, and keep up the good work.

Hi. When i first played SMS i was only 8 years. It was my brothers console but they was nice enough to let me play, though i diddent understand anything so i yust pressed the buttons and hoped for the best hehe, no thats not true.. it was only the english i couldent understand.. then after i while I bought 3 games (Impossible mission, Rampart and The NewZealand Story.) when i was about 13 years my brothers diddent play on it anymore and either did I. Now, 3 years later i decided to find it and connect it to my own tv, and i found it after 2 minutes (it was not hard to find, it was on the place me and my brothers left it.) Thats about 4 months ago, then i only had 1 master system II and 7 games, now I have 1 Master System I, 3 Master system II, many joypads, joysticks and pistols and I have almost 80 games.. and soon i will get one more of the master system I and about 41 games.. When I first found a Web Site (dedicated??) to the sega master system I wanted to make my own, no i have done it.. ShinobiMan; have you seen it yet?? I mailed you a link.. www.segamastersystem.tk - its not the best site but i think its good because its simple and easy to use. (PS! on some computers the text fu#ks up, yust press and hold the "ctrl" button down and use your scroll on the mouse to make the text smaller (bigger.)...) would love to get a link to my page on someone elses.. peder johnsen

My name is Ed I live in Chicago. I got in to the SMS through a strange way round. It began about 10 years ago when A friend told me about this kid who had a SMS console for sale. Which I bought for $10. Unforuntely the RF output was broken. Then about a year or two later I was talking my dog for a walk and I had to dart down and alley. Call me a pack rat I like to look in boxes. In one I found another SMS and this one was working once I figured I could use a Genesis power supply. This was a model 1 with Hang on built in. Once I played it I begun to look for games.
By the way I did get the other one to work, without getting it repaired. I bought a 32X on closeout at KayBees for $20 and in the box they had this AV plug so I thought "way not" I hooked that in to my broken SMS which also is by the way a model 1 this one has Snail maze. I plugged that in along with the RF adapter from my genesis and it worked.
To this date i got quite a few games my prize of course is Phantasy Star which I paid $35 for.

Hi I'm Retrobob, you may know me from such forums as www.totalgames.net and er, thats it. I'm from Cheshire in the UK. I started gaming with an SMS in 1988 and loved it. Like many people I sold mine to make way for various new consoles. I discovered retro after leaving uni in 2001 (I was bored). I've been coming here for ages, although less on the forum since some tit messed it up and Tyler had to re register it all. Anyway, I love the updated site, it's great, the forums are now much better and I shall be a regular. Well done Tyler.

Well hello,
I'm SuperPsycho. I'm just someone who collects and plays games for a bunch of different systems... I should really say more but I'm so lazy...it's easier to just tell people to see the about me page on my website...easier to just keep this one page up to date than updating intro posts on multiple forums.
I've acctually been to this website a few times in the past but I've never felt inclined to join the message board....I've never really cared for threaded systems like the old board.

Hello! I am chaoticjelly aka "Jimmy" aka "James Barber" ;D I'm a hardcore gamer, I play vintage, classic and modern systems, more often modern though My acssociation with the SMS occurred, when I was searching randomly for gaming websites, I remembered the SMS, and searched to see if there were any sites. I came across this site (segamastersystem.com) and thought it was great! The site really inspired me, and I remembered all of the SMS games that I used to play at my friends house when I was young! He had an SMS2, and I had a Super Nintendo. I remembered Alex Kidd the most and Flintstones, (even though that game sucks, good memories) I started collecting SMS games way before then though, my first SMS was bought at a car boot sale, for £6, and it came with a huge pile of about 15 games, it was an SMS2 For a long time I got one, maybe two games a year, then last year, I started collecting, trading and selling games as a large-scale hobby / to support myself and buy nice things I have around 800-900 master system carts (yes really!) - I'm trying to get a complete collection of every game ever released in mint condition, and I'm doing extremely well. 7 Brazilian Tec-Toy SMS games just arrived today from Bonaccorsi they are extremely nice and are all factory sealed, plus I got them at a bargain price! There are few games I am looking for, and I have mint boxed SMS1, SMS2, Light Phaser, 3D Glasses, so there isn't much I'm looking for in the way of hardware, I also have around 30 various SMS consoles.. My SMS pride and joy is Smurfs 2 I collect nutsloads of other gaming stuff too. I'm 18 and currently a student at Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool and I'm studying CGT - Computer Games Technology, it's pretty cool, but they don't talk about SMS much!

i too am a hardcore gamer, and am very proud of my vast knowledge of video-games. about anything else i know zero, but games - im your man! my first computer was the Amstrad CPC464 with a green screen, bought when i was 4. and then 7 years later, in 1992, for my birthday, i got my first Master System. Pretty soon, i was a SMS fanatic, and thanked my lucky stars that i was born in a country (England) where the greatness of the Master System had been recognised. now, 11 years on, i have a vast load of Master System games, and it remains my favourite console ever. i dont know what it is about the Master System but i just feel the need to collect EVERY game for it!

well my names Kris and I come from Sydney Australia. I was a regular on the older sms boards and anyway my first consloe was basically an old hanimex back in 91 when I didn't even know what video games were anyway I got me an sms in 93 for christmas with alexkidd and sonic2 and I was hooked and ended up with a bout 12 titles such as rainbow islands and transbot etc later I got another sms for my mums house although I did have a mega drive but that borke so I got that other sms with different built in games instead. over the years I got a SNES and psx and sold my second sms and half my games when I moved. It wasn't until 2000 that we found the old sms in dads garage after a clean up and then again became hooked on not just the sms but also classic video games as a whole. I now have an sms, controllers and joystix(that are stuffin up though) phaser gun and over 60 games as wella as an atari 2600, SNES, psx, megadrive etc and the room is now chock a block full of games much to my folks dismay though
