What do you hate about modern games?
Ill start... Intros, long long intros that you cant skip. They often lead onto a training mode, which because im getting old I get stuck on, then I get bored and eventually I give up and never play it again lol
Anymore?

Digital downloads, which normally cost more then the physical copy for some unbeknown reason.
Also having to pay for an online subscription to play all the features of the game.

Long installation and loading times, constant updates. Big long intros, cut scenes, grinding, online multiplayer full of "733t" kids, cheating, anything that takes longer than five minutes to start. I just need something I can pickup and start playing straight away. With limited time to play, retro is really the best option.

I remember playing forza online, the same guy rammed me off the circuit 3 times then gave me an earful for overtaking him

I hate that as soon as you buy the game, you have to download the rest of the game. You never have a full copy in your possession. They get repetitive and most are there to get you to buy things online.

Unskippable production credits! I've played the game once. I don't need to sit through the logos for the published, developer, assistant developer, localiser and console port specialist. Just want to play the damn game.
I'd have added loading times previously but Series X has completely removed that annoyance.
I'm not fussed with updates though. Very very rarely does a non-multiplayer game actually need them to the point the game is broken unpatched. I played through the entire of Final Fantasy 15 on the disc install because I put 20 hours into it on my parents' rural broadband (slow download, data cap) so couldn't take the bumper day 1 update. Slap the console in offline mode and away you go! Even in a worst case scenario there's the hope of a game of the year or greatest hits re-release that'll be a fully patched version (this happened with the infamous Assassin's Creed Unity).

Modern games have a lot of flaws and I think most have already been highlighted. Long intros, long credits, micro transactions, big downloads, etc. are all unnecessary pain, but on the whole I think modern gaming offers some great e experiences that complement retro gaming. You certainly couldn't auto resume a giant open world 3d game back in the 8/16 bit eras.

Buggy or even broken games at release. Part of it is the massive and complex games but part of it is also a "we'll fix it in a later patch" mentality to be able to release the game at the announced date. Which means that anything post 6th generation (DC/PS2/GC/XBOX) will become more or less worthless to collect when the servers die and you can't update the games anymore.
Another thing that bugs me is the pointless filler to add gameplay hours on games, I rather play a solid game that's only a couple of hours long than a 50-100h game that drags. There are of course exceptions (like the Yakuza series) but it seems like there is a need to fill it with content to "justify" the game.

The most modern console ive owned would be the original xbox. My kids have ps4s and i see them watching intros and cut scenes and think what a load of cr*p lol.
I only ever play retro, 90% of that is master system and the other 10% is a mixture of Atari, Amiga, Megadrive and a little NES 🙈
