Hi gang,
I'm sort of a lifelong SMS game collector (lifelong because I'm trying to compile the entire North American catalogue complete in box but it's kind of an "off the side of my desk" thing so I just pick up a game here and there) and I've been watching recently where Nintendo collectors have been complaining about faked SNES/N64/GBA carts coming out of China and how to spot fakes.
Just curious - Is this a thing in SMS market? Should I worried about what I'm buying off eBay nowadays? I never even thought about this possibility until somebody was showing the difference between a real and fake 3DS Pokemon
I mean...I get that it's unlikely that somebody's going to fake a copy of Hang On/Safari Hunt, but when I start looking at the harder to find titles, am I going to have a problem figuring out what's real and what isn't?

sms fakes are less common than md, where you can just go on aliexpress, wish etc and buy anything you want pretty much.
if i can find the thread about spotting fakes then I will link it here, a lot of people are looking at full sms sets so i use my knowledge and what little time I have free to educate them

Ha I was about to link to the same thing. Full discussion of it here: shinobiman.proboards.com/thread/7953/interesting-sega-stuff-on-ebay?page=128I don't think it was particularly good a fake, the cart label didn't look right even for an Australian release. I think it's fairly clear that people are faking the "US release" Sonic UPC sticker as well. Historically it's been people passing off carts modded with unreleased/Game Gear converted ROMs as actual releases. They're pretty easy to spot but looks like more and more rare titles are getting faked as prices rise. And they're going to be harder to spot without the cart being opened up.
