Hey guys and girls, been getting ideas around the meet and have come up with a new idea:
Back story- been trying to find time to organise this and time hasn't been forthcoming, was at play expo Leeds yesterday and saw mike, he asked about the meet and i said no dates were set as i was struggling with so many other commitments. He is in the same position.
We are however very lucky to have arcade club so close to the original venue, it's an excellent place and all we have to do is let Andy (arcade club owner) know what we are doing and we will be met with metaphorical open arms.
Only issue is that our usual competition format might not be able to happen. Also worth noting there are retro events and game markets throughout the summer, play Blackpool is in July this year and egx is in September.
My belief is that we have this amazing resource, it is our duty to make it successful, what do you guys think?

the over 18s area as loads of crt tvs and consoles set up so I bet they wouldnt have a problem with us taking over one of them with a sms. The wife suggested the very same thing a couple of months ago on here - great idea

It would be criminal not to use the Arcade club. No need to take our own crt tv's, parking is free, food and drink is available and the best possible environment with like minded people. Bury train station is about 10 minutes away and I wouldn't mind picking anybody up and dropping them off again.

Sounds like a perfect plan to me, I want to visit that arcade anyway :-)

I guess it was on the cards but it's harder work for me to get there and probably ian too, it's a drive now and seven hours in one day is a bit long for me, plus it's dangerous to drive after playing Micro Machines...

Part of my job is dealing with this sort of thing, I am only ever a pm away. There isn't a train station in Bury (its metrolink trams from Manchester), but the nearest train stations are Bolton and Moses Gate (the latter being one of those where there are only a few trains per day), the nearest hotel is about 10-15 minutes walk from arcade club and its a decent one, I should know as I got married across the road from there. I would say anyone that needed to could stop over at mine but we haven't got room

I'm completely fine with the idea but like Maxim, it does make it trickier for me. I guess I don't mind staying overnight, it's just the additional costs which is making me hesitant.
Just a few queries. So have you definitely had permission from the venue to use their facility? Is the plan to set up a few SMS's or just use what they have there? Is there anything wrong with the usual place (Pub/Zoo)?

I'm up for it in theory but can understand concerns around difficulty getting to the location for some people. I would rather go along with what everyone is able to do. I can also ferry people (ian, maxim, mike?) from Manchester to Bury and back if required to make this happen, it's about 25 mins each way via car.
Zoo was a great location but only works if people can provide equipment. Personally I only have one CRT (and thats untested for a few years). The Arcade Club sounds potentially better if people can get there without it overly imapacting time and money.

Is there anything wrong with the usual place (Pub/Zoo)? I haven't had time to speak to the venue, currently got about a million things on. My aim is to sort it once I have finalised a charity event I am taking part in, and a couple of massive work related things. Hence what is wrong with pub/zoo this time around: 1. it takes a lot of time to organise, which I don't have 2. Mike has a lot on, so we have to be able to do something where we arent reliant on his availability 3. It is a ready made back up plan if we cant get somewhere to set up sms's There is a premier inn which is located in the town centre I'm up for it in theory but can understand concerns around difficulty getting to the location for some people. I would rather go along with what everyone is able to do. Exactly my point, the minute one person can't make it, there is a major impact on what we can do, two people not being able to make it becomes virtually unthinkable.

A lift into Manchester levels it back for me, but I'm also considering the possibility of driving up and staying the night, just to avoid any timetable anxiety. The Premier Inn is £56, not sure about the Roach Hotel...

Would really like to come and meet up with you lot this year. Am on for this on the proviso I can find a half decent hotel when the dates are arranged, allowing me to pawn it off as a short weekend away to my better half. Guess she may enjoy a day shopping in Manchester while I'm nerding it up!
