Hi all,
I've had my Master System for more than a week now, and during playing "The Terminator" today, it started to lag up and the framerate would drop. I decided to test another game. I then put in "The Ninja" and after a while after loading in etc. around the first gate you pass through it lagged up and eventually froze. I furthered my test by playing the built in Alex Kidd. It appeared to work fine, however Alex started to get graphical glitches and he'd start to disappear and reappear. I then decided to test yet another game just to be sure, I popped in "Golden Axe" It appeared too to work okay, however after around 10 seconds of gameplay the whole screen glitched and then it keeps doing this for as long as you play.
It's rather strange as it has been perfectly fine for the past week that I've had it. I'm currently running it on RF and even changed the cable for a new one to make sure. The same problem still occurs.
Any ideas?

Are you using the original AC power adapter?
I'd suggest to give a try with another one, but be VERY careful to have the same specs. You may use the AC adapter from a Mega Drive 1.

Is it not a cap/ram fault? I would have thought an electrical fault would cause the console to cut out totally

Not sounding to good unfortunately... Have you tried a different rf box? Also is the rf dangling down at the back of the tv? Ive had probelems sometimes with that, once i have stuck the box up so its not hanging on its wire its worked alot better.

Digital glitches will (almost certainly) be nothing to do with RF boxes or power supplies, it's more likely bad capacitors.

Hey all, today i cracked open the SMS and had a look inside. First off, i'm good with a soldering iron and would like to keep this one up and running, rather than ditching it and getting another. First off, i've had a look at all the caps and noticed this on one if the disk caps, is this leaking?? On another note, what caps would likley be the cause for this and what ones need replacing? It's usually the electrolytics that fail, they may just be dried out with no obvious external indications. If you see popped lids and capacitor juice leaked out then that's much worse, of course.

I'll pop into my local electronics shop tomorrow and pick up some replacements. I'll let you know how the recap goes!

Yeah not seeing any leaking there, it's pretty obvious and kind of looks like battery acid.
