I have a room that I am now allowed to turn into my game room. I get to start from a blank slate. I was thinking about bouncing ideas around to you guys as to how to start, what to use, colors etc. Right now the room (I will post dimensions later) is painted light gray (US) or grey (UK). The floor has a brownish tan carpet laid on top (Not installed just sitting on top). Underneath is a very old bluish composite tile.
I thought I would start with the floor. Paint? Carpet? Tile? What color? pattern? etc.

Wow Jessie, this is a dream of a chance! For the floor, I always recommend a click laminate (you need a jigsaw for it). As the room is grey painted, a grey laminate would be nice and something different from other rooms. It may sounds colorless with two grey tones, but the real colours will come when the room will be filled with shelves, games, posters ect

I would recommend starting on your walls and ceiling. You don't want to drop paint on your new flooring. Just my two cents. Sega blue is a nice color

Here's where I am at right now... Removed built in wardrobe, desk, stripped carpets 4 cat 6e network cables, 4 double sockets switched at waist height, new lights Neon SEGA sign wired to a switch separate to main light but same unit Plastered one wall, new skirting all round, painting Laid out speaker cables, mounted TV New carpet (yesterday!) To come... Shelving units all across one wall Some kind of unit to put games on, nice looking (struggling here)

thanks for all the replies! Retrobob: Nice sign. I am liking the gray and gray idea. I was thinking of using Arcade marquee for the wall border. Not sure how it will work.

Depends on the size of the room, my husbands game room you couldn't swing a cat in, but has made amazing use of the space. Light coloured walls and a good plan before starting will definitely help. If it's a good size room you could probably have more choice with colours or decals. Will be exciting to see how it turns out 😁

A lot will depend on practicality, and what the trends are in your country. Here we tend to have laminate flooring on the ground floor and carpet upstairs, but American trends may be different.
I would go with neutral colours, if you have room for some cool furniture it will make all the difference.
Are you devoting the room to just video games or a general man cave? Mine is shared but the latter, we have a sofa in there and some of my btcc autographs on the wall (I have about 5 times as many as are on the wall lol)

Essentially it is a man cave. On my property behind the house is a smaller 3 bedroom 2 bath "cottage". I am using one o f the bedrooms in that. Room size is 11 feet x 13 ft in with a small 4 feet 6 inches by 2 feet used for the closet in one corner. Only one wall has a window. I will try to post pics soon.

I'd be less worried about colour scheme and more about what goes in there. A nice comfy sofa, more shelving than you think you need, nice display cabinets to keep things on show without them getting dusty, a quality CRT TV for the retro consoles. Unless the room is massive, the games collection will probably fill most of the empty space, and any blank bits can be covered with posters/prints of your favourite gaming artwork etc.

Great size room, id get a nice arm chair, a lazyboy recliner or something similar. The biggest crt tv you can find, a dvd player for old movies and lots of shelving because you will soon fill it! Wooden flooring will def look nice and as the room is quite large id use a slightly dark colour on the walls to help make the room more compact. A drinks fridge is def a good addition to 👍

I like it, and have the same or very similar poster anyways. Although mine is not on a wall (yet). Happy you get to have your man cave/game room. Mine is still a few years away.

It's definitely worth having a think about the room layout at this stage. Think about practical things like where your console(s) will be - if you need to move power sockets (electrical outlets) it's easier to do that now before you decorate.
