So CeX are now selling retro games , seems to be pretty much everything apart from the sms , which I'm quite happy about .
Has anyone purchased anything from them ? I can think of a few examples as to why this is not great for people interested in retro gaming .
First there are no photos of the games , the 3 categories are 1 cart , 2 boxed and 3 mint . Their needs to be extra info , the box could be hanging together , I can see nintendo collectors finding their games aren't quite as mint as they hoped .
Then their is a huge chance people will receive a fake game , if I buy a load of fake carts or boxes are the team dealing with this going to be able to identify them . Theirs no way I would trust them with a high end games .
Also this could see a reduction in auctions on ebay , people clearing out the loft might just send it in CeX instead .
Luckily the sms isn't affected so far , With the end of physical games now approaching this must be how CeX are planning to survive , I wish them no luck with it .

My rule with retro stuff is if it is expensive, or valuable, then I want one of three things: 1. I know more than the seller (ebay sellers, usually) 2. I can see the item in front of me, and can verify it is exactly what I want 3. I don't lose out if I am disappointed
The way the retro games sector is going, everyone is an expert and those that shout loudest claim to know most (haha yeah right, that is never the case in life), I can see someone buying a load of stuff off car boots, taking it to cex for vouchers, using it to buy smurfs 2 and it turns out to be fake

They're offering decent cash for a lot of games, considering the cost of ebay and zero protection for sellers. But for buying? Hell no. Found some stupid prices for Mega Drive games that seem to be set at ebay BIN levels. And if they're published on the website I doubt there are deals to be had in store.
Seems they're just jumping on the retro bandwagon, I'd be surprised if they sell many to warrant keeping it up for long. Back when Gamestation was a thing, they got the odd interesting retro title but were quickly swamped with battered EA Sports games and then gave up on retro games.
I've bought PS2 and Gamecube games from CEX before... it was pretty rough getting them to understand that games come with manuals, they didn't state on the box whether or not they had one. CEX is a pretty depressing shopping experience anyway - long queues as the great unwashed try to offload some old crap while abnoxious "music" blares away... and you get to the till to find the game doesn't have a manual or they outright can't find the disc.

CEX are usually pretty good for games for the kids psps but they dont care if the manual is missing.
I wouldnt buy a retro game from there, as someone else said I bet they dont sell them for long.

just been watching some videos on youtube and my suspicions are confirmed . Take this short video www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW11PkRADD8The guy has ordered r type III on the snes , receives the cart ( probably a repro label on the cart ) and finds that it's a lawnmower man game in an r type III case . Theirs no way CeX are making checks , the kids working their have never seen a megadrive game anyway so don't know what to look for , the person who traded in the fake game could do this countless times , If this was to really take of for CeX and they are getting thousands of games traded in each month it could be a scammers paradise .

I notice CeX are now selling sms , their prices are all over the place , they don't have much in stock currently but the person in charge of pricing has put no effort into their job For example they list a mint wonder boy III at £35 which is certainly top end , but then have a mint home alone listed at £30 which is well below market value . In fact a lot of games seem way to low a mint hang on card version for £25 , mint buggy run £90 , ultimate soccer mint £22 Their are bargains to be had if they ever get anyone silly enough to trade in at these prices

Some of the prices are completely whack. £2 for unboxed Ultima IV. (£6 boxed) This is the same price as great soccer 'card' version. £15 for boxed Robocop vs Terminator. Bought this recently CIB for £3.83, including postage. As I don't mind getting cart only, am hoping there may be a few bargains to be had. I know a lot of people don't like CEX for various reasons but to be honest I've never really had a problem with them. Most of the time the staff are friendly and helpful, even when I'm being a fussy old bar steward about disks and instructions. Not sure how bad cart only stuff could be, but I'm sure if I had any problems my local store would be more than willing to sort it out for me. Anyway, well worth a look when you get 10 mins, even if only to laugh at some of the prices. Side note: Anyone willing to sell Ultima IV, I'd be happy to beat CEX's trade in price.

I recently sent them some games for trade in , its a fee post service , saves ques at the shop . It was just lose carts for megadrive and snes , things that wouldn't be worth selling on ebay . Got 60 in credit for it . For that I ordered a mint Robocop v Terminator , earthworm jim and captain planet , all for the megadrive . The games arrived quickly , none of the 3 games could be described as mint however I had to return the Robocop v Terminator as the front page of the manual was missing , they refunded me without any hassle so if I need to get rid of more junk in the future I would use them again .

CEX in Bury had Master System games in the window today, maybe about 10. Nothing rare. Prices were not too bad to be honest IF they were all complete, I didnt chek as I wasnt interested in buying any.

Not sure I'd be fully trusting enough to risk buying a 'mint' anything from them unless I could inspect it first. I think different people have different versions of grades for things. Mint to me is as new but unsealed. From what you say it seems they are chancing their arm to make a few extra quid, but I think they will find it a hard sell to much of the retro community that are actually looking for mint as opposed to just complete. Have noticed too there are no listings for world Grand Prix, world soccer or most of the 'great' games, among others. Guess they figured out they'd end up holding loads of these, mildly disappointed.

Mint probably just means complete in this case.
The markup on some of these titles is superb - we'll buy it for £3 but sell it at £15. Seems like a half-decent market for selling unboxed junk but anything half valuable you want to shift is still better off on ebay.
I'm sure they'll call it a day when all they have in stock is overpriced tat and a shelf of Madden/FIFA!

I think some of the cex prices are good especially for the sega master system accessories, should they come in stock. I have used cex a few times for trading items that, I have brought cheap online and traded at a better price, then I brought them for. I haven't had any problems with cex but probably wouldn't buy a smurfs 2 if they were in stock

I have spotted a few ''interesting'' prices

The rest were around the £8 - £10 ish bracket, which if complete proobably isnt too bad these days.
