Hi guys!
I grew up in a land where the behemoth of Nintendo utilized its market domination to push the Sega Master System into an obscure little corner of the market. However, by some chance, I was able to grow up with this system several years before the NES. My earliest video game memories involve the Atari, however, the point at which the games really left an impact was with games like Golvellius, R-Type, and the Ninja. To this day, I can still play the soundtracks to any of those games in my memory.
It was then that my love for Compile began, but not until just a few years ago did I assign a name to that love. It was when I was playing Gun-Nac and saw Randar again did I make the connection.
I am currently developing a game for the NES, and should I have any amount of success with it, I am curious in pursuing SMS development after. I do think it's a more robust system, as an NES has to have additional hardware in the cartridge to produce the same effects, and even then, it is impossible for the NES to compete in color range.
Sometimes I feel old starting in video game development, especially considering that I'm targeting a dead console. But, it's an inspiration to know that Masamitsu "Moo" Niitani was my age when he started Compile by himself. It's a shame that his company turned out the way that it did, and I wish him the best of luck in his new venture with Compile Maru.
