Thanks for the add! Just stumbled across this forum while trying to find some info on my SMS. Saw it at a yard sale with about ten games, a controller, and light gun. Also had a poster folded up in one of the games from '87. I saw it and it just took me back to my youth, so had to get it. Plus he only wanted 5 bucks for it, and all it needed was an RF adapter. Stoked! So I keep seeing people talk a lot about NTSC and pal, how do I know what mine is? Thanks again for the add guys! Any help is appreciated!

if you bought it at a yard sale i am guessing you are from the states? if thats the case you have an ntsc system.
in terms of the games everything works on every system except codemasters games which only work on a model 2, which i dont think got released in the states.
which games did you get dude?

I guess you are in the US so more than likely your SMS is an NTSC one. Good news is that the SMS is region free meaning you can play games from elsewhere in the world (there were quite a few games not released in the US because the SMS was not sucessful there). Welcome!

I am from the states. I take it by that comment that some of you are not! Got about 10 games, Rocky, Rambo first blood part 2, Alien Syndrome, Kenseiden, Hang On, Thunder Blade, few others I can't think of right now. Everything works great on it. Took the system apart and cleaned it up real nice, so looks virtually new except for a couple scratches, but nothing too crazy. Nice to see a following like this for the system. Didn't realize that you could mod technology this old to work and look like newer stuff. Looking forward to browsing thru your forum and seeing what I can find out about the SMS. Probably be doing some mods soon!

Welcome!
Yes, the majority here are from Europe which I would say is a reflection of the system's popularity and longevity "over here" compared to the US. For example the PAL game library is 2,5 times larger than the NTSC one. But as Retrobob said, it's region free so you can play them all (I believe though that there are a couple that are glitchy when played on 60Hz which could make them semi-unplayable).

Now if I could just pickup an old tube screen style tv to use the light gun....flat screens are great but they do have at least one disadvantage-gun doesn't work on em!!
