I am sick and tired of all this bullshit and having to wear a mask pretty much everywhere... All the while this pandemic made people go crazy seemingly. Demonstrations everywhere, this idiot Attila Hildman is going around claiming covid was created by the evil USA and Bill Gates, merkel is secretly a communist and the worst thing is: He has thousands of followers who believe this nonsense. We have similar morons in the UK, conspiracy theories, people trying to make it political, it's pathetic.

Crazy times. Ok here though, I work from home anyway, my wife is on maternity leave so not much change for us. Wow, with baby already here or on the way? Either way, good luck with all that! I'm quite lucky working for a University that I've been working from home for a few weeks now, and can fit work in around the kids on the whole, thought being stuck in the house with a 6yo and a 2yo is never easy! 🤣 The baby is 4 months, and we have an almost 3 year old. Poor lad is going to have a faeces birthday.

First game completed (have finished a few others before)...
Aladdin
This came out around the time the film was released here (which was a year past the US film release) and follows the plot very closely, meaning I could read the text in the cutscenes to my son, who loves Aladdin and was having fun watching me play this. As you'd expect with a 1993 movie licence, it's fairly straightforward platforming but is quite different to the Mega Drive and SNES versions that most people will know. Someone thought... what if we made a game that animated a bit like (but not as smooth as) Prince of Persia, there's sneaking past spikes, running, long jumps etc. etc.
There are some quite lengthy cutscenes between the levels - I reckon if you burn through this you could do it in 25-30 mins, and the cutscenes are probably another 15 to 20 mins on top of that. I enjoyed it!
Last thing... I played this on my MegaSG on a massive TV, that thing is amazing.

Not sure why I never contributed to this thread but I will from now on.
OK, I had played the ending from someone's password with emulator using saving before, but now I actually finished on the console the game I started 1992 or 1993.
I love that this is even feasible! I love that all my Xbox 360 saves are in the cloud so when I pop in a BC 360 game, my old saves are there. I also have an Acorn Archimedes which has an excellent flight arcade/sim called Chocks Away, in the late 80s, early 90s my brother and I recorded some games using the flight recorder, we found the old discs recently and were able to re-watch those old recordings, love it!

So I searched the forums and there's not been a single thread (title) discussing actually playing this game, no one picked it for everyone to play etc. Forum member Legend lived up to their name and prompted me to play this.
I was expecting a pared down Mega Drive game but this is totally different to that version, I'd say even more different than Sonic 1 on MD vs SMS. Basically it's a platformer which pinches the climbing, jumping and sneaking from Prince of Persia which couldn't be more perfect given the subject matter. There are platforming sections and chase sections... the game starts off with a chase section as you steal bread from the market - what ensues is some very impressive parallax scrolling! Then on the second level you are doing the PoP climing and jumping, some long jumps to do, running, sliding etc. etc as you progress through the game.
The game sticks very very closely to the events of the film, and despite that this is an SMS game... there are extensive custsences and dialogue lifted right from the film... and most impressively, the cutsences are done 'in engine' ( you know what I mean but it's probably not the right phrase) and it's quite seamless.
The platforming sections are quite basic but standard stuff for the time, stuff falls as you approach, you should dodge accordingly. Playing this game I get the feeling that they wanted you to complete it... the manual specifically says that there's infinte continues; you'll need them until you learn the game. I died a lot but you learn and move on.
Overall this is very good use of the licence, throwing a bit of Prince of Persia in for good measure. Yes it has basic platforming but this is to be expected from a film lisence at the time. I played this through tonight, took me about 40-50 mins but once you know what you are doing, this could be done in a LOT less time. Given the PoP mechanics and timing based gameplay, I bet this is a good one to speed run.
It struck me that this game has two things that we take for granted these days... no set number of lives... and 'in engine' cutsences!
So... who else has played this and what do you think? Anyone fancy giving it a go?

I've not used the site before but when I navigate to a game page it shows the title screen in the top right hand corner.
Try clearing your cookies and deleting temp internet files etc etc. Turn it off and on again, though you've probably tried that!
