When i were a sms consumer i don't knew about a FM unit for sms. So back days i was wondering about these port. In back days i imagined that would be a CD-ROM slot expansion as Genesis and Sega-CD. Now i question myself. Could be possible SMS have a Cd-rom unit in 90's just as pc-engine and mega drive?

Pc-engine CD did release in 1988 and Mega-CD in 1991. Anyway my question is could sms have a CD unit release? Don't wonder about costs but in technical possibility. If the floppy disk unit is possible then cd unit also. But where in Master System would be connected? In Fm port?

Of course it could, a CD-ROM unit is just a RAM cartridge with some way to get data into the RAM. That just gives you large capacity and loading times, though. You can pass the sound through to allow CD audio, and you could chuck some hardware on there for video playback if you want to start getting unrealistic by late 80s standards.
This is exactly what the expansion port is for, it would connect there.

So with this means that SMS could have any nes resources (ppu direct acess). SMS could technically trade video ram bus with hardware by expansion.

As a kid, I repeatedly called 1-800-USA-SEGA and asked them about that expansion port. "Are you gonna make a keyboard for the Master System? A disk drive? A CD-ROM?" The people on the phone, who were mainly there for technical issues or to answer questions and give tips for games, just politely said they had no plans to do so at that time. I tried!

Would be interesting especialy in design if it sat ontop of the sms,it would have to be one of the most unusually shaped devices ever. Obviously the drive would need the memory cache as the master systm has little to spare but I reckon the CD Drive would still be faster than the Neogeo CD :/
