Phantasy Star was the very first of dozens (J)RPGs I've played and PS is my favorite console game series (I've been more a PC gamer last 20 years so there's some computer games I like even more).
Much later I've played Nes FFs and DWs on emulator and I do think one of them is as good - OK, almost as good - as PS1: Dragon Warrior/Quest IV. Of everything I've tried in any format, it's the best Nes game I know.
Of the other Phantasy Star games, I think PS2 is overrated and PS3 underrated (though 2 is still slightly better than 3). Good, even great games both, but IMO 1 and 4 are clearly the best of the series. Which wins... matter of taste.
PS Online I've only played offline. As single player, not a bad game if you want to grind for tens of hours.
PS Gaiden is a great game, surely among best of GG. I admit it's not that good as sequel story-wise, but is PS2 or PS3? No. PS4 is.
PS Adventure is... generic, kind of the most unnecessary piece of the series. If you're going to mess with emulators and translation hacks, the 8 PS2 text adventure games are all better than PSA. I'm not sure if you should play those or PS2 first if you haven't; I think you'll enjoy the adventures more if you've played PS2, but perhaps also PS2 more if you play the text adventures first.
