Maybe I'm reading things wrong, but it seems like a lot of people here don't like Monopoly on the SMS. Now granted, I'm the new guy here, and I did play Monopoly a lot on the NES, but after playing through a game of it I honestly don't see what the big deal is.
True, it's hard to compare the two versions, cause while they are the same game (Monopoly) they each play differently in ways (choosing opponents, the menus, etc). I will say that the biggest complaint I have of the game, is whenever I had a lot of property the AI wanted. It seemed after every single roll (except for doubles and getting out of jail), it was asking for these properties. I had about 5 or 6 and every single time I was asked for each one. That got on my nerves. I tried to make it offers but it said it was too high. I finally got to where I wouldn't waste time entering a price as this helped the process to go by a little quicker.
Other than that, I enjoyed my game and I had fun beating down the AI (once I started building houses it was over from there...granted it took him FOREVER to finally land on the things!). I'm not trying to start a war, mind you, I'm just wondering why many of you don't seem to care for this game at all.

Haven't heard any problems with it - it seems like a very faithful translation of the board game. If anything, I would venture to guess that it's easier to just set up the board game than to play it on a TV.

Everything about SMS Monopoly is bad, the graphics, the font on the gameboard, the terrible rendition of "The Entertainer" and the in game music which makes you go insane....shall I go on?!
Good points include that you can save a game with the aid of the battery back up and no silly passwords. Even the MD/Genesis version didn't have that feature - it had several loaded games you could start to play instead.
The NES version from what I've seen is close to the MD/Genesis version with the digitised hand to shake the dice and the animated sequences. The SMS was capable of so more much than what was produced. Still it was the 1st game not be made in house I believe and was an early SMS release so you can't be too critical...
The worst point about any console version of Monopoly is that it's the US Version, I don't want an hotel on Boardwalk, I want one on Mayfair and you can't cheat with the computer. Stick with the board game and stuff loads of money down your trousers....erm...

The one player is awful as the computer players are very difficult to do deals with. Also you can barely see the whole board.
The two player is OK but if computer players are involved, they ruin it. The real thing is so much better.

i really like monopoly, the odds are stacked against me though as being uk based and into board game and gameshow based games as a guilty pleasure (except for the ms version of trivial pursuit, that game is shocking).
the ms version is a lot better than for example the ps1 version which i absolutely hated, to me its a variant of monopoly as the american board is different to ours, i cant just go out and buy an american variation of monopoly and i dont want to even think about the shipping costs, import duty etc on an american variant of the board game.
i havent played it as multiplayer, i have the variation with the credit cards for that (no idea what its called but its downstairs and i cant be bothered looking), on the ms its a good fun game for if you just want to play it on your own against a computer player, much the same as if you play a game on facebook against a random opponent. there is always one person who wants to make ridiculous deals, has their eyes on certain cards (if its me i always eye up stations and utilities), if you are used to playing against at least one person who frustrates you until you beat them then at least its realistic.
there have been a few awful conversions of monopoly *ahem ps1 ahem* (nasty cough i have there)

Monopoly is generally regarded in modern board game circles to be a bad game anyway, it is really for kids to play with adults who help them out, and it still takes way too long. A console conversion is then an annoying lesser version of the board game. Add annoying music and crude presentation and what's there to like?

Domark did a half decent job on Trivial Pursuit, although based on the original Genus version which was nearly 10 years old at the time of release, it works as a concept more than Monopoly. It adds pictures and music to the game and eliminates the use of a board and allows everyone to see the questions. Ok the picture questions graphics look like they've drawn by a 4 year old on a Etcha-Sketch, but the game in general is a lot more fun than Monopoly could ever be.
I know a Sega CD version also exists but am pretty sure that was a US Release only...

I do not have a problem with the Sms Monopoly that is for sure,I found it entertaining and quite difficult to find so it cannot be that bad.Real thing aside I have only played the Ps1 and Sms versions but I enjoyed both and do not really make comparisons as there is no real point preferring just to accept the game for what it is.When I used to play the Sms version it passed the time away and I came away reasonably happy I had enjoyed myself so mission accomplished .

I think most people just don't like the music in it lol
