Hello everyone ! I'm a long time fan of the Master System, and also an occasional reader of this forum. I decided to write here for the first time, because I'm working on a game you might be interested in. It's a homebrew for the Megadrive, programmed with the BASIC compiler BasiEgaXorz. Basically, the game is a fighting game where all the characters are from the Master System ! Here is a video to show you my progress so far : I hope some of you we'll get interested by the game. If you want to try it, the ROM is downloadable there: david.bonafonte.free.fr/SMSBrawl/SMSBrawl.bin

I think this could be fantastic. Needs more characters, Alex Kidd and Sonic as well if at all possible!

I tried to open the ROM but Fusion won't play it. Strange. Did you try to open it as a Master System ROM ? The game is for the Megadrive. I think this could be fantastic. Needs more characters, Alex Kidd and Sonic as well if at all possible! More characters will be added of course ! I intend to make a story mode with quite a few guest stars. I might be able to make a custom box artwork Could be nice ! When the game is finished, I want to make it into a real cartridge.

That's because you select the second character with the second gamepad, even if you play solo. I'll change that in the next version of the game.

Why did you decide to make it for the MD? Could it be for the MS?

First of all: Wonderful idea! We have modern games for the Gamecube and PS3 with all the stars from today, and an 8 bit game with all the stars from the past is really cool! With enough time and well programming, it will be a great brawler.
Sadly it´s not for the Master System, which would be way better (especially if you bring it on cart maybe). How many characters do you plan for the game? My ideas are: Alex Kidd, Sonic, Psycho Fox, Mickey, Donald, Chuck Jr., Asterix, Joe Musashi and Michael Jackson from Moonwalker (I think he deserves it as an honour for his passion for Sega).
Keep up the good work!

I decided to make it for the MD because it's much easier : more colors, more powerful, and the development tools are easier to use. It could be for the MS, but with much more efforts, for example all characters would have to be redrawn using the same palette of colors. And I'll have to use C langage, or assembly, to program on MS. I'm far better in BASIC so I use BasiEgaXorz which is exclusive to the MD...
So far I plan to use all Sega specific characters first, so no Mickey, Donald or Michael, but I can still change my mind.

Looks good! Reminds me of Super Mario War:
I don't mind if you're creating it for MD, I'm just happy with the fact you're using SMS characters and sprites.

No problem with MD version I hasten to add. I would just prefer to see it on SMS. Hey! no surprises there!
All said though I can see why you chose the MD and would really love to see this game. Keep at it! And keep us posted!

Another good reason is that the megadrive has a much bigger audience so should prove popular too.
