Well, I was mildly hopeful for last night getting a package but nothing. Pretty steamed the way this thing has turned out. I spent $30 on someone's gift plus another $25 to mail it ... in return, I got zippo cause my person doesnt seem to contribute to these forums any longer. So glad the people in question had no hesitation about signing up for the swap but once the assignments were handed out just abandoned the place knowing they were getting a package.

That sucks to hear soera. I guess that's also why I'm so hesitant in participating in swaps like this. The idea is great though. I wonder if some kind of trial run would be in order for new sign-ups? Ie. new members that sign up for the swap for the first time, will be appointed a more trusted member (who's been participating before) as their receiver. The new guy will then send his package first to the trusted member, and when the trusted member has received the package, the trusted member will report to the person who arranges the swap and verify that the package was received.
The person arranging the swap can then let the person having the new guy as a receiver know that it's OK to send.
This requires more administration and time in terms of having the swap signups done in good time, so that new members will be able to send and receive their gift in time for the particular holiday. And although this by no means will rule out that something will go sour down the road, I believe it might be able to help limit the "Hit and Run" pattern.

Oddly enough I did not even think about the possibility of "swap and run". I am surprised by this, not because I think it would never happen, but because the community here is such a great place that I would never dream of jeopardizing the relationship.

the swaps could do with a new system with some sort of 'non sending insurance' added in. there are a few options and i certainly will still be up for organising another, to be honest it will be a christmas one as i am getting married in july, if the system needs to change it will of course go to vote i'll think of a few options and we can vote on them before the event takes place
with this in mind i am going to appeal for anyone that has not sent out to update me with what is happening, if i have not recieved notification from a sender about when they sent out/why they havent or as an alternative notification that an item has been recieved from their recipient by may 5th 11am uk time, i will be adding on here who the non senders have been and consider banning them from the next swap.
i'll be in touch with soera regarding his situation

Could it be that the address was washed away by... the tears of Opa-Opa, who was heartbroken and furious at the injustice done to a true Master System fan?
