Yep, pretty much redundant - although the microphones still work there's just no on-screen karaoke video. I mean, you could put in an audio CD and start singing through the mics, but without the proper karaoke software (pitch detection, lyrics display, score etc) it wouldn't be much fun.
You can still play Dreamcast online now, setting up a server isn't the problem. The problem is communicating with the karaoke hardware and telling it to do something. No one knows the protocol and without a working example to examine and reverse engineer it's probably too difficult a task for anyone to bother with.
It's a shame as it would be super fun to have a working Dreamcast karaoke unit!

It's a shame as it would be super fun to have a working Dreamcast karaoke unit! Is the technology still in use by any other type of karaoke device, there could be a way of maybe picking up data from another server? Edit.. I did a bit of digging and found a few old posts on the subject on the Assmebler Forum.. Yakumo - 2005I must have explained this 100 times by now The dreamkara can be used anywhere in the world as long as you set up a Japanese ISAO account like id-republix mentioned. The Dreamkara connects to the Sega Karaoke Network that's been in service for over 10 years. real karaoke studios use this service as well as Sega Karaoke for PC and of course Dreamkara for Dreamcast. You connect to the server via 56kbps or Broad band which is highly recommended. The Dreamkara can store up to 5 tracks in it's memory WITH REAL Mpeg Video until you switch off the power. If you download more than 5 songs then the song in the number 1 slot automatically gets deleted to make room for the next song. You can always down load the 1st song again anyway if you want. The first song takes about 3 minutes to download via BB (full song plus words and real video) after that you can download more tracks while others are singing the ones in the Dreamkara's memory so you never really have to wait again. This works just like a Karaoke box in Japan. I have no idea how shitty the loading times are via 56kb but I can guess they'll be very slow. There are 3 options as far as I remember for the music. 1 and best but you really need BB is the full set up with music words and video. Next is music words and still pictures for the back ground, 3rd is music words and no images. The Dreamkara also has many many many cool features such as a duet option even though only one is singing. The Dreamkara will simulate the male or female (you choose) from your voice. Also change your voice to the opposite sex There are also ranking games that you can play with it to see who really is the best or in my case, worse singer. Yakumo - 2009The service is still going but not in the format that the Dreamcast and PC Dreamkara services used. It's now a lot more advanced so there's probably no way the original service could connect to the all new service. In fact the Dreamcast couldn't for sure. There's no where near enough memory for HD Video and music. It really is a shame because with the Broad Band Adaptor this was a fantastic service. Just like having your very own karaoke unit in your home. Fast download speeds and buffering that downloaded up to 5 tracks while you where singing the song that you had just selected. The Wii's Karaoke service is piss poor compared to what the Dreamkara offered!

Tunnel B1 is a fun game and has a pretty good soundtrack from Chris Huelsbeck. Road Avenger is a fun game too, one of the better FMV games in my oppinion. Fever Pitch Soccer is also quite entertaining with the special shots and the ability to literally kick other players in the ass - horrible sound though, the music is unbearable.
I just bought a bunch of Xbox 360 games: WWE 12, Fable 2, Forza 3 Ultimate Collection and finally Bayonetta.

The Goomba Bros. ;D I got one for only 1,51€ from a ebay seller called yes2yeah. It came from Hong Kong in 3 weeks to Germany. They are listed as 11cm, but they are 9 1/2 cm. But that´s no problem for this price, they are really cool ;D One is mine, the others are for my mother and two friends.

Got Brütal Legend today (Xbox 360) and it's damn blinking awesome, even though there are no Iron Maiden and Dio Songs in the playlist whichi is kinda strange, but the music, the dialogues, the characters (Lars & Lita ;D ) are awesome. A game for real metal fans who listen to real metal and not that crap core or nu"metal" bullshit. I love it

I've picked up a few more MD since my post asking for some recommendations. Was pretty excited to get Ren and Stimpy as I'm a big fan of the show but found it a pretty terrible game - bearing in mind I only played 5 mins as yet. Coolest item of the lot is the pirate cart which I found on ebay.com.au and picked up for five bucks. I love items like these, only wish I could find more for the SMS.

Glad you got one of the Strike games; they're a throwback to the days when EA actually made video games instead of cashing in on 20 year old franchises.
Desert Strike, Jungle Strike and Urban Strike are probably the best games you can buy on the MD in terms of both gameplay and lastability.

I've picked up a few more MD since my post asking for some recommendations. These Gold and Platinum Collection games look very nice. Are they region free? Are they specific to australia? I don´t know much about the MD/Genesis and learn as much as I can about the games actually

Picked up a cheap Game Gear TV tuner: Wasn't really on my radar but this one being complete & in pristine condition caught my eye, and the price was right. We still receive the analog TV signals here in Australia: When they do eventually phase out the analog signals the tuner still serves a purpose, in that it has an AV input which is fun to mess around with: Yes, that's Contra on the NES running on my Game Gear. Sorry, but I didn't see the point in connecting my Master System to it due to the Master Gear converter existing.
