There's some explanation of the game's problems here: www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=51481#51481It could be patched to work on all BIOSes, but nobody's done it yet. (It should be simple - just enable VBlank interrupts at boot.) Note that header problems show up as either going to the built-in game every time (no TMR SEGA) or SOFTWARE ERROR (wrong region or checksum). Hanging on the SEGA screen is a sign of an actual bug in the game. Ah ok. Thanks for that. I have used your header reader and, after reading through SMSpower and "nearly" understanding everything, i modified the header on Sonic Triple Trouble as it had the wrong region and checksum. I now use the SONBIOS in Fusion as others have suggested. It emulated what was happening on my console perfectly. I then loaded up STT with the modified header and it loaded up fine. So fingers crossed it will load fine on my real life console. Unfortunately i have no spare EPROMS left! The main Edusoft ROM does still hang as you say Maxim. However, i modified the HAX2 versions header and tried that in Fusion using SONBIOS and it loaded fine. Obviously i can't say 100% as i haven't flashed an EPROM yet. So, from what you say Maxim, my version of Edusift, should it work on a console, will only work on a console using the SONBIOS? I guess i could get Fusion to use other BIOS' and see if it still loads? Again, thanks to all for your help. If i can return the favour (which i doubt!) i'd be happy to do so! Asta

Found an EPROM for Edusoft and: Tried with Fusion on SONBIOS and BIOS13FX (SMSpower d/l) and worked with those. Tried it on another v1.3 BIOS i downloaded from elsewhere and got snailmaze. Happy at the current stage, although i'm wondering if it's possible for me to do the patch Maxim mentioned? Although i hav zero programming experience! ;D

It turns out the HAX2 file is patched for the problem I mentioned (albeit in a slightly weird way which might cause some glitches in the game - the hack is at a location that looks like it might overwrite some data). It seems you've also found that its checksum wasn't updated as part of the "fix" so it fails the BIOS checks, but you also fixed it so that's good.
Note that most Snail Maze BIOS files on the internet are patched to always go straight to the Snail Maze game, they will never work as BIOSes. SMS Power's "fixed" version restores normal functionality.

Thanks Maxim! Looks like i'll have to play through the game start to finish in order to report back any glitches. Shouldn't take too long. Will just need to brush up on my times tables!
Do you think i should tell the necessary people that their file is wrong? Or even send them my edited ROM file?

It's probably not worth publishing a new file, it's just another ROM for the lists if you do that. There might not be glitches at all, it's hard to tell whether the "fix" has overwritten real data or just junk data that wasn't used by the game.
