Played this one for the first time tonight (well first time for more than 2 minutes). Awesome game!
I've not even gotten to the end of stage 2 yet so should be able to improve on this score over the next few weeks!

It's a great game. I'll play it some more later this week and post my scores as they improve.

My new score! Seem to be getting the hang of this now. Made it a little way into stage 4. Hard game - seemed to slip by with luck most of the time! EDIT: Did better again with 816,760. I wont post a picture every time I beat my own score until it gets serious

EDIT: Did better again with 816,760. Damn. Yeah, I'm not going to beat that. I can't even beat my own score due to constantly making annoying mistakes. :/

I'm concentrating on finishing Medal Of Honor at the minute, but as soon as I'm done with that I'm straight on this one, love Power Strike to bits!!!

Oh dear! It's seems all this PS3 gaming of late has softened up my gaming skills!!! Been playing for 40 minutes now and I can only make it half way through level 2.... I haven't bothered taking a pic: 191,700 A few hours of practise should retune my skills hopefully ;D EDIT: It's all coming back to me now, getting a good routine with the weapon swaps and finally made level 3/broke the 300,000 points barrier . I'll post a pic tomorrow if I can't do any better (I'm sure I will be able to though ). EDIT 2: got to the level 3 boss a couple of times, but had the crap weapon 1. I kept shooting the decent weapons just as they appeared on screen not giving me enough time to collect them! Came painstakingly close to defeating the 3rd boss on my last attempt, just one base left to ice, and then out of nowhere some enemies appeared and got me cornered ;D. Managed 506,840, but I'm gonna do better tonight. I've mastered levels 1 & 2 now and can get through them without losing a life with ease. Better get playing Josh .

I've managed to get to round 4 now but as I'm useless with weapon 1 I didn't make it far, my new high: 546,080.
Still trying for the top spot ;D

I wrote this down on the back of my manual when I completed it two years ago (for the first time, having had it since 1992):
4,056,630
The game dumps points on you when you beat the final boss. I'm sure I've done better than that score since, but never wrote it down - the first completion was a milestone event though! I came back to it after a few years of playing manic shmups and completed it in that first sitting - obviously I was just terrible all those years prior!
Once you get to level 4 it starts to tease you with mid-level bosses. There are loads of them in levels 5 and 6. Level 6 also has some seriously annoying panels which drop out of the background if you shoot them (plus you have to fight the mother ships again, but with enemies flying around as well as turrets and those ruddy panels) and I won't spoil the nasty surprise which comes just before the final boss!
Tip: weapon 2 is for winners. When you have it, hold down button 2 and you get a ball in front of your ship which acts like a shield. Use your regular gun to take down enemies, occasionally releasing button 2 to send off a powerful burst to use on the mother ships and boss turrets. Once you get used to bullet/baddie soaking with the shield and releasing a shot when you need to, the game gets much easier. If you don't die, you can keep it until the end of level 5 without running out of ammo - so there's only the one mad dash for a powerup when you start running dry. If you're lucky you can time it to coincide with one of the mid-bosses having one turret left to reduce your chances of getting mullered in the process of grabbing it. If you can one life it up to level 6, then you should have banked enough extra lives through score to keep you going to the end - if you can grab a half-decent power up in time.

Nice score dude, only 600,000 off the record over at twin galaxies! I'm gonna keep pumping this 'til I finish it, might have to go play some harder shmup's first though. It's been ages since I've played a shmup ;D.
I'm not a big fan of weapon 2 either, I can see the benefits but if I lose it I struggle to use any other weapon as you get used to not having to dodge incoming bullets, in fact you aim for them with weapon 2. Weapon 6 is my favourite, closely followed by Weapon 3.

Woah - I might have a stab at some record breaking then! I played Giga Wing on the Dreamcast a lot before hitting that score, so if you can stand manic shmups they give you good practice at this game (especially when you die {and you will die} and have to dodge utter hell until a power-up plane arrives)! Otherwise try something more traditional in style but with a serious rank attitude problem, like Raiden.
6 and 3 are pretty great (when I first got the game I religiously used 3) but I find the time limit too restrictive - you pretty much have to make some suicide dashes to charge them up at various points and when you hit level 5/6 it's just too risky. The trick with weapon 2 is to use your regular guns and try to play it like a standard vertical shmup - once you get two beams with your main gun you'll cut through most things, so weapon 2 is basically a shield until you hit the bosses... at which point you unleash the fury and take them down in seconds. Careful trying to soak the revolving orange bullets though, that can get nasty!

That's a mighty fine score man! I'm barely hitting the million mark, if I'm lucky, most times I play! So what's the go with this score! Are we able to count it without a photo? (Not that I don't believe you of course). I'll pop you in top spot for now anyways! Here's my latest efforts. 1,263,360. I'm still yet to see stage 6!

If I can nab a better score - and I'm sure I have done better - then I'll post a photo. I intend to give it a few plays at the weekend and see how I get on. My word here is as much proof as my writing on the back of the manual, which is the only other evidence I hold of having that score - I only wrote it down because I was so excited that I finally completed the game!
You do get points dumped on you for beating the game (you get about 20 extra lives or something as a result!), so most of my score came from just that. Stage 6 also has a shitload of mini-boss bases throughout it, like stage 5 - plenty of scoring opportunities if you can stay alive long enough!
