Well, I hate to the bearer of bad news but a new rarity has entered the playing field. I noticed it had been noted ( www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6264&highlight=batman+returns), but very little had been said/confirmed regarding it. (unless I missed another thread) Found today in a near by game shop, the stand out spine didn't look quite right which turned out to be this upon a closer look: No manual sadly, so I cannot confirm if it is different too. So, time to find the Sonic 2 variant now!

Would you trade it for a complete copy of Ninja? My copy has penmarks in the manual The Home Alone version is probably somewhere out there aswell. Care to say how much it was?

It's a good thing Sega didn't go with that design; it looks terrible. It looks like someone with no artistic skills threw it together in Photoshop.

I've been looking for it for six years (eight years for the sonic 2 lol) so you can say it's pretty rare ;D

The manual is likely the same. Isn't the Sonic 2 variant the same as the regular release?

Sorry guys but in my own opinion, it's only a huge fake ! Many points are bad : - Action in red ! - Master system II - title on the side - too big - title Screen taken from a gamegear version... a very very bad point - only 3 screenshots instead of 4 -text on the back side : too close of the left/right border -sega on the back side too small too many mistakes ... It's so easy to make fake covers and print them

Thanks Bock, and yes I've already seen this Sonic 2 cover, it's seem more "real" than this one of Batman Returns ! By the way I really hope these covers are real

It's so easy to make fake covers and print them The Master System II Sonic 2 cover is 100% genuine. Without question it was used as a display sleeve - I know this because I saw it in Currys around the original release and thought it was odd. Whether it got as far as commercial shelves, I don't know. In Currys at the time, the sleeve was spread out in a display pane and you took tickets to pick up the actual game from the counter. This also had the different ACTION bit and only three screenshots. Taking screenshots from the wrong version is not uncommon - SMS Mortal Kombat for example features GG screenshots. It is possible that this is faked to go in line with the vary rare SMSII Sonic 2 and make some $$$ - but it is equally as likely to be genuine. Probably more copies of the Sonic 2 variant sleeve will be in existence, because it was given serious hype leading up to release.
