Current Top Score: 66 Goals (grolt)
66 Goals - grolt 63 Goals - ninjabearhug 3 Goals - Phil
Rules: Tally the highest score from a single game, at this point the teams you play do not matter. Ten minute periods, "Junior" skill level. We'll go by total goals scored rather than point differential or anything. Photographic evidence is required for first place scores.
Yep, you heard right. It's time to put those Master System controllers down and grab a man's controller...The Sega Sports Pad. It'll be a nice change of pace from all the high score getting of previous games, this time using the sports pad to see who can get the highest score in a single game. This could get crazy, and I'm expecting some arthritic injuries, so get at it, boys!

My sports pad doesn't work . I can only move diagonally up/left so I haven't managed to score a goal yet . I'll strip it down and see if I can fix the damned thing then have another crack, maybe I'll score a goal next time . What length periods are we using? 10 minute?

Haha, it might not be the pad...I can never score at the damned game either! Yeah, let's do 10 minutes, good call.

So, I've managed to score 2 goals, but with what I'm presuming is a broken sports pad. How does everyone elses sports pad work? When I roll mine to the right my player runs left, roll it up, my player goes down. Are they meant to be reversed or is mine not working properly? And what do the switches do? I'm thinking it may be a Mega drive compatability problem but I can't be arsed getting an SMS out to try .

You presume wrong, that's how the game actually plays. Wow, this is a tough one. This is going to be pretty much all luck. Not sure I want to even try this one, think I'll stick with Paperboy for now, which I still need to play (fingers crossed for tonight).

And what do the switches do? Maybe you're holding it upside down? ;D It's like the Control Stick in that the buttons are actually on the left rather than the usual right. For right handers I think that makes the most sense, since the most effort is required from your right arm. The switch closest to the trackball toggles between "Control" and "Sports". Obviously it should be set to sports for this game, which is moving the switch closest to the trackball. It's a sensitivity thing. Then the other one is a rapid fire toggle switch. The setting closest to the trackball is rapid fire, while further away is single fire.

This is a game of physical stamina, it makes the Wii Fit feel like Myst.

Being Sega8bit official champion 2009 I have no need to enter such frivillous events. I am the best ;D You can be the F-16 Fighter champion then, this contest is for the king of the ring! I'm in the second period now, I got two goals in the first. My arm is starting to give out, but I must continue on and beat the bearhug. Wish me luck, my friends.

I'm currently the Sega8bit Worldwide Champion 2009 by default. I scored 3 goals my friends in a 5 minute game against Poland

10 minute games only! That's part of the challenge, since it takes so much out of you. My forearm is killing me. But I managed a pretty good score: I got 2 goals in the first, 1 in the second and 7 in the third. I think I figured out a strategy that works. I'm going to try it again soon once I recover from the fatigue!

Okay, moving up in the world: My breakdown was 11 in the first, 1 in the second and 12 in the third. As you can see, going left on the pad is really problematic. I find it's tough to get the speed and control when you're spinning it into your body. If I can get better with the second period then maybe I can do some real damage! A note for those taking screenshots - either have your camera ready for the end game screen, since it is only up for about 8 seconds, or better yet pause the game just before it's over and take a shot there. That way you can see the goal breakdown, too, which is a nice feature.

Prophet was saying that scoring 40 would cause some serious damage to your arm. Well... ;D I need to break the 50 point threshold!

Wow!!! Awesome score Grolt, that's going to take some beating . I've upped my score to 3 goals (in a 3 minute match against Canada), which I don't think is too bad considering my pads shafted . Maybe you're holding it upside down? ;D It's like the Control Stick in that the buttons are actually on the left rather than the usual right. For right handers I think that makes the most sense, since the most effort is required from your right arm. You're right, I am holding it upside down. It's the only way I can make my players run in the right direction!!!! Problem is I either have to use my left arm to control the ball, which I find near impossible, or twist my left arm around the pad to use the buttons, which in turn makes it hard to get any power into the trackball with my right hand. I'm going to have another go in a 10 minute session against Poland and see if I can get a more competition worthy score and then I'm calling it a day until I can get this damned pad working, or until I buy a working one. Either way I will return to this .
