Wow! Amazing find; where on earth do you dig these up? Oh, I got another game to add to the list: Battletoads (the original game; not the sequel Battlemaniacs). It was reviewed in an issue of The Official Sega Magazine (UK). I can upload some images if anyone’s interested. -Jono

It’s funny you should say that, as I am pretty sure they call the game Battlemaniacs, yet the screen-shots clearly show the original game (the review also describes the original game). The screen-shots don't look NES-like either (so I don’t think it’s a mix-up). I will upload the review in the next couple of days (unless I can find I link on the internet to the issues I am thinking of).

Sega Master Force ran a preview which consisted of a small box and a solitary screenshot of the first stage from the original game. It was released on the Game Gear, so it might be another of those where an SMS version was being made and they only put out the GG one?

Found the magazine; it was (Official) Sega Magazine (UK) issue 5, May 94. I don't have a scanner, so this is the best I could do: s20.postimage.org/eldbufplp/DSC00253.jpg Sorry if the resolution is too small. Note that the game is listed as Battletoads: Battlemaniacs on the contents page (not pictured). Just noticed; the very same magazine lists Fire & Ice as being released in June (94) and Dropzone in July (94). Seeing as this was in a May issue these games must have JUST missed the mark. Well, at least we got Fire and Ice...eventually. More still; issue 6, June 94 lists Battletoads: Battlemaniacs due for release in July (94) and Excellent Dizzy in August (94). Even more; issue 7, July 94 lists Itchy and Scratchy and Tazmania 2 (presumably Taz: In Escape from Mars) for release in August (94). Even more 2; Issue 8, August 94 lists Pete Sampras Tennis for release in August (94). - Jono

The screenshots on the review look like Game Gear sized ones, this shot from the Game Gear version is a near exact match for one of them -
