I'm sure we've all experienced it before - reset after reset, clawing your way to the finish after hours of late nights just to get some closure. Toughing it out just to be rewarded for your efforts. To see that awesome ending, and then...
"Game Over."
That's it. All your work was in vain. No "Congratulation!" or text scroll or even a final graphic. Just "Game Over" or "The End". It's one of the biggest slaps in the face in gaming history, and sadly there are several games that fall victim to it. Several games, in fact, on our beloved Master System.
I've been duped a few times now, so I'm hoping with this thread we can identify all the guilty parties so we're not setup for disappointment when the time comes to end your game.
So please list any game you've finished where the ending is nothing more than a blank screen with a few cryptic words like "Game Over", "The End", "Fin", etc.
Games with "Game Over" endings:
Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars Cool Spot Robocop vs. Terminator Shinobi Sonic 2 Xenon II
It's probably also fair to identify the "Looping" games that never really end, too, to save everyone the added effort.
Games that loop endlessly:
Bank Panic Galactic Protector My Hero Populous Hang on Safari Hunt Transbot

My Hero loops forever and I believe that Bank Panic and Populous can't actually be completed either.

Populous does indeed have no ending. If you really tried you could play up to level 32768 and then it'd roll over to 0. But I don't have the patience to test that.

Grolt Lost Stars has an ending of sorts so that should not be included in the list.
Cool Spot has a weak congratulations message....

What is the ending for Rampage? I can't remember if I bet it or not. That was one of the worst NES endings. After 365 levels of agony you get a lame animation and a congratulations screen.

Grolt regarding Lost Stars you get 6 zodiac signs halfway through the game and 6 different ones at the end. It's not just game over! I have played the game you know!

Yeah, after the first 6 there is the nice bit where the camera pans up from the Statue of Liberty and then the Zodiac symbols explode onto the corners of the frame. That's cool. Then, you go through the trouble of playing each level over again on harder difficulty for the other 6 and then once you finish it PLAYS THE SAME CLIP OVER AGAIN and then just says "THE END". That's a non-ending if there ever was one.

It's not the same clip as the 6 zodiac signs are different. I know what you mean though. Just think of the games having 2 endings...The game's crap anyway so let's not argue. Let's embrace!

Sonic 2 says Game Over when you complete it! Good game though. A classic. Populous is a great game. The best on the SMS in my opinion. Once you get up to level 5125 give or take the game doesn't remember the world names anymore so after you reset, you can't return to a level with that world number or more. Using an emulator and save states i got to 5999 where the game was messed up but I managed to get past it to the 6000 levels. The game STILL doesn't end. How do you know it would loop back? I've been trying to complete it for years in vain.

How do you know it would loop back? From looking at the code, I expect. It sounds like the game is using a signed 16-bit word to store the level number.

Sonic 2 does say Game Over at the very end, but surely it's not in the spirit of this thread? You get a proper credits sequence (albeit using in-game animation) and stuff. It's not just a dull Game Over screen.
Nominate: Xenon II. The bloke from the shop just tells you to turn your machine off.

It may be a crappy little message at the end of cool spot but it isn't just a game over screen.
