Its only 8 in the morning, and two horrible things have happened already On friday night I had the feeling I should check ebay, something I don't do much these days. And what do I find only just listed, but this amazing auction: cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290256808617&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=019I was so pleased, SMS2 Sonic 2 and a Portuegese Transbot! What a great way to start off my sms collecting again. Yesterday though I had a bad feeling, what were the chances of those two games being in one auction. Are the scans on smspower, oh yes they are. Today the parcel arrives, I eagerly open it, and what a surprise my instinct was right and they are poorly printed copies. Then I turn my computer on to email the seller, and it just beeps at me. Seems its decided to die today, doesn't even show anything on the monitor, so presumably its something quite terminal. So seems like I have wasted £35 and now need to buy a new computer too, not happy.

Sorry for your computer! For the auction, you should ask for your full money back and leave feedback. Just bad luck. That said, the most problems I get are with multi-thousand feedback eBay users. Those guys usually just have no time to do things or answer questions correctly.

Thats really poo. Very sneaky of the seller to have those covers printed and not say in the auction.. and why should they print the 2 rarest covers rather than normal ones. You should hopfully be able to get your money back even if it's via paypal as the item clearly wasnt as described.
..and this reminds me, I really really need to get myself an external harddrive.

Bummer, you must have been pretty pleased after you saw the advert too! Of course the seller will just say that they got the games like that and had no idea that they might have been scans.

Wow, not a good day.
Bock, could you add watermarks to the scans on SMSPower? I love the fact that they're there for research and stuff, but when you see them being used like this, to rip off the community who contribute the scans, it's not good.

We will never add watermarks, that's plain stupid. You don't punish everyone because of a few abusers. Just beat the abusers when possible. Watermarks are a scourge to the internet.

To be fair, the seller (or whoever originally made the covers) probably just looked for the nicest-looking scans for each loose cart they had - if they were trying to rip people off with them they'd probably have been mentioned a lot more prominently. Worse case scenario, you'll always be able to file a "item not as described" claim, and Paypal will almost always side with the buyer - these days, even initiating a dispute will mean that the funds are removed from the seller and "held" by Paypal until the dispute is resolved (I know this, 'cos someone recently filed one against me for some games that supposedly never arrived - I'm suspicious, to be honest, but there's nothing I can do since they didn't pay for tracking )

I'm not geting stung by ebay/ paypal's anti-seller rules.

I've been stung by pay pal at least twice once for £150 Neo Geo apparently not turning up and another for around £35 for a modded xbox the guy didn't know how to work.
I always send my items recorded or special delivery (even though people moan about the higher shipping costs) because there are to many scammers trying to rip people off.
Has anagrama said, Pay Pal nearly always side with the buyer.

Maybe it's just something cheap to replace, give me more info and I'll be able to tell you what it is. I.e. Is it a long beep (How many beeps/Is it continuous) Have you removed all cables except power cable to see if the same thing happens?

Going off topic, I might start insisting on Tracking for any purchases over £5. I'm not geting stung by ebay/ paypal's anti-seller rules. Well, theoretically you should be covered for up to £36 by the Post Office if you have proof of posting - I've filed claims twice in the past, and while they can take a while, they eventually came through OK on both occasions. This is why my auctions state that anything over £36 must be trackable, though I'm a little more flexible than that in practice - I'll insist on it above £50 or so, but for anything between £36-£50 I'll usually give the buyer the choice. Seems mean to whack everyone for the relatively few arseholes out to abuse the system, and if I know I can get £36 back if necessary, I'm happy to eat the difference in these rare cases. In the situation I mentioned earlier, the bundle cost £44 so I'll probably end up losing out on £8, but I've posted over 500 packages this year and this is only the 2nd time I've had a problem (the first was a blatant fraud from a Portuguese guy - I ended up having to refund him his money, but Paypal compensated me for the full value).

Pretty harsh, that would have been the mother of all bundles. I guess if it looks to good to be true, it usually is.

Playgen, I think I need about 7 of those games. Maybe we can work something out so get some of your money back. Let me know and I'll check exactly which ones I need.
(edit) must be CIB though
