I've been playing this game quite a lot lately, I really like it but I find it really difficult. I've managed to just make it to the boss on the second level once, but even getting past the first level is a challenge. Does everyone find this game hard?
Also what exactly are the differences with the US version? I know the game is smaller but have a few levels simply being cut, or are there other changes making it easier too?

I found it really hard, the one hit death got me pretty quickly.

I absolutley love love love this game. It is very tricky but not impossible. My tip would be (very obviously) to power up with your star power as quickly as possible as Captain Silver is not the most swift of captains. This is particularly important with the boss on the ship who is pretty difficult. Apart from that, take your time as one false move = instant death.
If you're finding it difficult now though you wait to the last level and boss. Absolute nightmare!!

Just got to level three! and its quite unlike the other levels which was unexpected. Its so much harder without the two or three times upgraded star power, which is totally lost when you lose a life. Really is a game that you need to be consistently perfect in to succeed, doesn't become annoying though.
Level 2 boss is hard, but like the first one its not too bad once I realized not to try and make too many hits at a time.

I found the game mostly easy, but in the US version the game cuts out the portion in the cave from the second level(?) and then another level after that, I believe. The end boss though, man. Hardest. Boss. Ever. It drove me nuts trying to beat that guy - not only is the one hit death a major factor when he's shooting and jumping all over the place, but you seriously have to hit this guy forty times to kill him. It's insane!

I think I read in a previous post that the ending is also more limited in the US version. If that's right then that's a real shame as it's a really decent ending to a difficult game.
I've just had a quick go at this game and the 2nd level pirate boss and the 5th level yellow armoured boss are also a pain in the ar*e. Once you get to the 5th level boss he comes at you with a ball and chain weapon which either aims high or low. I'm pretty sure you have to hit him close with your sword and the stars do not affect him. What is really annoying is that his weapon moves are not consistant so if he traps you in a corner then you don't know whether to jump or duck. I generally get close to him (but not close enough for him to hit you) wait till he attacks, run up to him, hit him a few times, then run back quickly and jump as well. You just got to pray he doesn't walk you into a corner where you can't run away.
The dragon on the 4th level is easy if you have the stars. If not then he's very hard and he also takes ages to beat.
Main tip is to always only power up with the stars and armour. It is important to remember which chests allow you access to the shops (e.g. in the cave and ship levels) as you only get to open one and the other is just useless treasure which gives you points.

In the US version there's a long text scroll to finish, and then a couple pictures I believe. Is there more in the Euro?

Hmmm that sounds about right. Can't remember the ending in that much detail tbh. Maybe I'm wrong.

I never found it that hard, well, then again. It takes some practice to get anywhere, the Banana King is a real spiderpig, probably the hardest part in the game right there. Took me awhile to defeat him. I seem to remember doing something to collect a good number of extra lives early on.

Nice link, interesting to see just how much was cut out of the US version, sounds a lot easier. I'll have to get a US copy of the game at some point.

I suggest you don't, it's really, really boring after playing the PAL version.

Ahha I was right, the ending is different. This game is infuriating but a bit of an underrated gem. Only completed it once. At least I can remember the ending a bit- unlike Power Strike which will never be completed again and have no idea of the ending.

Wow, there's way more changed than I initially thought. I just thought parts of levels were cut out - not total alterations of each and every level. I really loved the US version, so I am anxious to give the Euro version a spin and eat my words about it being a not so challenging game.

Hey, I was going to make a thread about this! Yeah, I've been playing it a lot recently. Yes, it's hard. I haven't made it past the witch boss in the first level yet. And it's slightly... creepy at times, with those giant wolves and the musical guy. Oh yeah, when you die... "woooo!"
