New SMS collector from USA... been having Stan try to convert me from NES to SMS and I think he finally did... after selling my entire NES collection and not collecting for the past 2+ years it is time to get into the SMS and see what I have been missing

Welcome to the dark-side. I mean: the forum. :)
Have you made a start on your collection? If so; what have you got - anything noteworthy?

Great, a new member. Even better that your an ex-nes collector.
I guess the US SMS set is much easyer to get than the NES set, are you going to be collecting Euro, Brazilian and Jap games aswell?

Oh the NTSC NES collection was a pain but I did complete it in under a year (Panesians and Stadium Events as well)... I am so glad to be out of NES scene because there are a lot of "new" collectors... I plan on doing European right off the get, as for Brazil and Japan I need to look into that...
I am going for CIB of every game

Welcome
Keep in mind that some European games don't work properly or at all on a US NTSC system. Such as James Bond, Operation Wolf, Back To the Future 2 and you'd be missing some of the screen from Micromachines, Cosmic Spacehead and Fantastic Dizzy.

Is there any NTSC system where these games will work or they just work on a European system?

Well its the fact they are NTSC thats the problem, the incompatible games were programmed for the PAL video mode specifically. A NTSC system can be modified to work at 50hz too, but its highly unlikely your TV will support it.

You'll just be missing some of the screen, and a tiny bit of flickering. Its not as noticeable as I remembered it being, just tried it again in 60hz and its perfectly playable.
It will also play on a SMS1 as long as it either has Alex Kidd or Hangon+Safarihunt built in.

Micro Machines is one of my fave SMS games and I'm always impressed with the graphics, the way the floor moves in relation to the table on the breakfast stage for example.
Also fantastic in 2 player mode, might be my fave 2 player SMS game actually
