Welcome aboard! I'd also be interested in hearing about any South African console releases, particularly Sega stuff - are there "official" S.A. versons of any consoles, or was stuff just imported from elsewhere?

thanks anagrama.
all consoles in south africa are simply imported from abroad (mostly UK), so it's not a treasure haven for collectors. most consoles don't even make it here. as far as i can remember, the only 'retro' consoles/systems/ gaming computers to have landed here were; atari 2600, commodore 64, zx 81, zx spectrums, sega genesis, nes, nintendo game and watch. there were probable a few more but these were the ones readily available in most shops.
currently, the only consoles/handhelds readily available are the PS2, PSP and GBA. I PS1, GC and XBOX are not readily available.
PS3 and XBOX 360 are to be released here- not that i give a hoot!!!!

Heh, was that Telegames by any chance? I'd say £30 or so is a fair price for one, maybe a bit more if it's totally complete. Oh, and welcome aboard

Yes it was Telegames. When i phoned them the bloke said they are new and sealed. The trouble is, the SMS is the console i know the least about so getting ripped off is almost odds on.

Best way to avoid getting ripped off is to not deal with Telegames full-stop. They're worse than retro_boy, fechrissakes! They were asking £40 for DD gift sets less than a year ago, but then jacked up the prices as soon as a couple of people enquired about them.

i recently saw a copy of DD gift set for sale for £69.99 on telegames, emailed them to confirm the condition of the item and they replied saying it was now £89.99!

It's a wonder they ever sell anything - I've lost track of the number of similar tales I've heard...

I slept with a girl from Telegames once and got a copy of Centipede free. Any hidden message there?

So I'm here at last! Been hanging around the forum for a few days now and just got the time and effort to create a profile! I'm 25 years old, living in Scotland where I have all my life, my first console was the atari 2600, and around the same time I had an amstrad pcw, which had a fantastic array of green and black games! Got the SMS when it first came out and loved it, built up a pretty big collection (around 40 - 50 games) by about 1993, mainly due to a spoilt kid in my street who got anything he wanted getting his parents to buy him every game going then getting bored and selling them for £5 each a week or two later!
I have quite a few other retro systems, my favourite other probably being my NGPC, for which I have the rarest cart. in existence (through luck, not judgement!)- It is the system that never made it despite being better than anything else at the time it came out.
I have the SMS3 which is fantastic, no need to constantly wear out the cart. port with constantly changing games! If you can pick one up cheap I'd definately recommend it. I searched around for a long time with no luck before I got it (some sites claimed to have it for £49.99 - £60 but when placing an order every one of them without fail said 'sorry, we haven't actually got one!'. I eventually got one for £100 and even bought a second one for a friend who was interested but subsequently went and got a Megadrive3 leaving me with it! So I am selling it on ebay, but I'm not wanting to lose money obviously so the one I'm selling is quite expensive. Only buy it off me if you really can't find it cheaper elsewhere - you might have more luck than I did or maybe someone else has a new stock somewhere.
Anyway, SMS rules, always has and always will!

yeah i love the neo geo pocket too, sonic pocket, metal slugs, crush roller are all great. Whats that rarest game you have for it then?, some sort of puzzle game if i remmeber rightly? It really could have kicked some gameboy ass if it wernt for one thing - Pokemon.
