If any of you haven't seen this yet, the Kickstarter for the Sega Master System visual compendium has just launched. SEGA® Master System: a visual compendiumIf you're not familiar with these books, there have already been 5 made for other consoles, and now it's the turn of our beloved SMS. I have a few of these compendiums and they are fantastic quality. I highly advise to pledge now!

I have also supported it now and hope that the project goal will be achieved. This book would find a good place in my new games room, which I am currently setting up.

I can’t wait to see the finished book. Some of the photos are of my items so it’s of extra interest to me.

Backed this straight away yesterday. I've backed a couple of their previous efforts and the books turned out great. Plus Bitmap Books have a track record for delivering all their KickStarter targets on time (or very close to it) so this is about as low risk as you can get with KickStarter.
I'm curious to see how the Official licence from Sega will work out. Their past books have featured third party titles, but I suspect there may be some games that cannot be included in this book due to their licence. Things like Alf spring to mind...
If anyone is on the fence I'd definitely recommend checking out their page and past products. The Master System has had pretty limited media coverage to date so this is a good chance to start to right that wrong!

One thing I meant to raise is the inclusion of Sega8Bit as one of the partners on the KickStarter campaign along with a link to the smstributes.co.uk website. Is this a reference to Rupert's photograph's or is there more to it?
I do find it funny that a Nintendo website, NintendoLife, is listed as a partner before Sega8Bit, but then Damien McFerran is in charge of the features.

Coffee table books always seem to leave me disappointed but I can't not back this. February feels like a long way away.

I definitely must have it 😊 but I am not sure how it works with that kickstarter. Do I get a book, if I pledge some of the prices? Or do I only support the project and then can buy it in February?

Technically you are not guaranteed anything from KickStarter as you are donating to the project. Most people really use it as an early pre-order system and that's the case here. When you back the project you select the reward, say a copy of the hard back book, and are charged the corresponding amount if the minimum funding goal is met. Postage is extra. All going well you will then receive the book in February (no further charges).

I'm really surprised and glad that an SMS book has already reached so high. Probably due to their previous quality books and reliability. Great news! I'm definitely backing this. meu2 welcome back

I'm definitely backing this. meu2 welcome back Thanks Gallos. I never fully went away, i.e. lurked from time to time, but with my collection finished, albeit not complete, I didn't feel I had much to post. I'm not too surprised that the KickStarter has started well given the reputation built up from their previous efforts. One thing I did note is that this campaign had a much higher initial goal than all their previous efforts. I suspect the extra £25,000 may be due to the official licence, but it does mean less stretch goals have been met than would have been the case in the past. The third KickStarter update also mentioned how they really want to have the slip case and will see what they can do regarding their stretch goal arrangement in case they don't reach this goal. It's currently a goal of £150,000. They did hit that for the NES/SNES ones, but it may be a bit high for the SMS community size. Fingers crossed though as the slip cases are great.
