Hi All,
I just joined and have been briefly browsing around and realized there is an introductions page.
I’m 38 years old from Ireland and been living in Australia for about 16 years.
The sega Master System was my first console. My Dad bought one for my brother and I and sent it in the post. The control stick came a few days before the console and we were puzzled to say the least as to what to do with the controller before the system arrived.
My brother has always been collecting and has kept most of what we had over the years and this made more sense as I was he one that travelled more and moved out of home earlier.
I actively stayed away from collecting older stuff simply because I never had the space to hold any volume.
That was until I heard about the remake of Wonder boy III: the Dragons Trap a couple of years ago.
That flicked a switch on in my head that lay dormant for all these years. I just had to own a copy of the original Master System game and that led me down a Massive rabbit hole! I quickly realized in a lot of ways I was about 5 years too late and the retro boom was already well underway.
Dragons trap was probably on of my all time favorite games and I have many fond memories playing alongside my brother.
We actually got it for Christmas and sneekily started playing it before Christmas arrived and kept hiding back in the “Christmas present hiding place” it when my mother came home. We realized as this went on though that my mother had no idea what the game was like on the TV so we brazenly started playing it in front of her once we realized this. She never realized this until many years later!
I now have many many variants of the game for Master System, versions of the game releases for other consoles as well as variants of the new Dragons Trap remake. Along the way I have picked up other Master System games as well as Megadrive stuff and also fell down another RGB, PVM,CRT rabbit hole! Needless to say I’m an deep in it now.
As space is still a concern for me I have recently made a decision that I would collect a small but high quality/rare collection of Master System games.
It’s early days yet so the rarest thing I have right now is Ultimate Soccer, Golden Axe Warrior or The Brazilian Dragons Trap, maybe some of the Australian Silver releases.
Looking for recommendations on some choice rarities to fill out the collection. I’m trying to focus on the top and work my way down.
I’m not made of money either so this will be a slow ongoing process.
If anyone is looking to sell some of their stuff at some stage please keep me in mind if you want it to go to a good home.
Anyway congratulations if you have read this far and I look forward to chatting to you all at some stage!
