I'd go for September if we can get a date that suits everyone.
Competition-wise, I'm up to hack some competition games if people can think of some good ideas. Last year I made a "free play" Micro Machines (skipping player selection, including tracks you can't normally play 2-player), for example. Other options include a speedrun timer or level skip.
Let's not overdo the game count - there's usually too many, and not enough time. Better to try to come up with more interesting competitions.

Right, that settles it, I'll do another poll for september dates. When are you back from honeymoon ian? If we cen manage to get playgeneration and rupert along as well then it will be epic. On the subject of competitions, I think the key is short, simple and fun. Micro machines is a great shout.

I'm back on August 26th.
I have to disagree with your statement on Olympic Gold. I think it requires plenty of skill and strategy. I think it's a fun game and went down pretty well when we've done it before. Although we have had it at 3 events now though! High score and quickest time games are the way to go, the head-to-head rounds are pretty time consuming.

I would agree the competition needs to be something quick that can be revisited if people want to try and beat previous scores etc.

Olympic Gold does have some skill involved - but that's button-bashing skill much of the time, plus a bit of learning how the game works for other events. I think the key thing for the competition is that it has to be very easy. Everyone but ian will not have practised at all, and he may be distracted from his usual regime too. I'm always surprised when people turn up who have never played Alex Kidd in Miracle World or Sonic. A full knockout tournament on a head-to-head game does take more rounds than a score/time/whatever attack, but I think the head-to-head part makes it a lot more fun both to play and to watch. I'll start working on a time trial mod for Micro Machines

Not having played alex kidd I understand, my first ms was an alex kidd one but that was pure fluke, my other two are a sonic system and a hang on/safari hunt model. If I hadn't chanced upon that particular one, I would have done the same. Sonic is pretty unforgivable its a couple of pounds to buy.
The button bashing is what puts me off olympic gold, us dyspraxia sufferers are not renowned for finding stuff like that easy.
I am tempted to bring my sports pad, or has everyone used one before?

Next you'll be telling us there are people who don't own Wonderboy in Monster land (if there are then I'll need a lay down) ;-)

We're in danger of missing the year 2016 at this rate... I expect I can do any weekend with enough notice.

We're in danger of missing the year 2016 at this rate... I expect I can do any weekend with enough notice. The danger of missing 2016 is what made me leap into action, wanted to make sure we have maximum availability of everyone, and adequate notice given. Think I have found a date that gives everyone enough notice to be ready, its been a tough year to schedule. I could have had it organised for earlier in the summer but a lot of us seem to have stuff on Main options we have are August 20th or October 1st. Until I get the final word from the pub I can't say which we will get, does anyone have a preference?

Who is Alex Kid? Is he friends with With Wunderboy?! Wunderboy, of course! He was the main character of that rare, german SMS game which also starred Alex Kid! To this day I cannot fathom why it only saw such a limited release!
