Just thought I might explain my recent surge in activity here at the forum as of late. I realized that I have made a large amount of posts in the recent months. At the end of September I was laid off from my job. Under normal circumstances that would seem to be a bad thing, but the reality is I have busted my ass nearly every day since I graduated high school almost 20 years ago now; and I am enjoying some time off. I was fortunate enough to have started a successful drywall contracting business shortly after high school. I sold my remaining contracts to a larger drywall company in 2009 and started a new career path repairing automobiles. I quickly worked my way up the ladder from wrench to service advisor/manager. It made for a nice change of pace after 10+ years of construction, however it totally ruined my hobby of working on cars/trucks. As the auto repair industry has changed over the last few years I grew tired of this profession. Once layoffs were obviously going to happen, I "volunteered" to be one of the first let go. I know that seems unusual and illogical, but like I said; I've busted my butt for years providing for my family. I have a decent enough nest egg to kind of sit back and relax for a little while (truth is there has been very little relaxing, I now spend most of my time making up for the neglect of my own home and auto repairs, LOL). So with my new found "freedom" I have had amble time to play my SMS and research useless crap. Unfortunately, the "party" has to come to end sometime as my unemployment benefits end at the end of March. I'm sure I could file for an extension, but I am growing tired of hanging around the house and posting here. After applying, I have been accepted for a job that will pay very well, allows me to continue coaching football, and will not destroy my body the way drywall and wrenching has. Lucky me! So I am sure my surge of posting will come to end soon, although I will always remain somewhere in the shadows I am sure. I just thought I would explain my recent activity here at the forum in case anyone cares. I'm not looking to brag or make anyone feel envious for a lack of a better term. Like Joe Walsh sang: Life's been good to me so far! I hope everyone is happy in their day to day lives, and hope that 2016 will bring all of you the luck I have had so far this year. Please forgive the rambling of a man that enjoys festive beverages and doesn't have to be anywhere tomorrow.

As my dad always used to say..
'Nobody ever says on their deathbed I wish I'd spent more time at work'
Enjoy the break :-)

Please forgive the rambling of a man that enjoys festive beverages and doesn't have to be anywhere tomorrow. I'd be interested in the story of how you got into the SMS. It wasn't a particularly popular system in your neck of the woods (100 US released games if memory serves). Did you own the system back in the day or are you a late adopter?

You are so right! Not popular at all, i was the only kid I knew that had one here in the US. I'm an old timer. Got my first SMS Christmas of 87. If you are really interested in more of my back story you can check out more details on my "intro post" or a thread I created some time back called "what year did you get your first SMS?" I think the US has 114 games.
Edit: was actually Christmas of 86, my second grade year.

A gap in work is what got me collecting for the SMS. I was out of work for about 6 months and started visiting various gaming forums before deciding sega8bit was my internet home (That is how I think of it!). After a few years of working full time I got my first house and that is the point at which my forum activity reduced a lot. The combination of work and maintaining a home meant far less free time. In the past few months I've discovered i'm going to be a Dad! This means I need to get my act together in terms of sorting our home out ready for the addition. Part of that sorting out is getting my games/ collection room straighted out and less cluttered.. In spending more time in there sorting things out it has pushed the SMS back into a higher place in my list of interests, hence more active on the forum

This means I need to get my act together in terms of sorting our home out ready for the addition. DUDE CONGRATULATIONS! There is no experience more fulfilling then being a father. I will let you in on a little secret.... YOU WILL NEVER feel your house is ready (in terms of organization, etc) for the little one. As a father of four I remember always having this feeling of I wanting to get this done or that done before the next addition to the family. No matter how many walls I painted, carpets I replaced, rooms I organized, there was always this feeling of something more that "needs" to be done before I was ready. I guess we as men go through the nesting sensation as well as our wives/mothers of our children. Don't worry if something is out of place, it is so easy to focus on the perception of your surroundings. John Lennon said it best: "All you need is love!" Give your child an environment of love and acceptance and he or she will grow up to be healthy and strong. And follow Stan and "indoctrinate the little ones early". Don't let them grow up to be Ni****do fans! I certainly agree sega8bit is my internet home too! I'll lurk over at SMSPower, but most of it is way more technical then I ever care to be. (although I still enjoy reading about the developmental side of things, even if don't understand it.) Like I said earlier, I know my surge of posting is soon coming to end when I start my new job on Feb. 15th... but I'll always be around here, lurking in the shadows.

I was mainly focused on getting my career in check, that was the main reason for my absence over like the past two years. Even with the kid I find time to check on here about once a day. Some day we'll all be coming on here for virtual funerals for each other. Damn.

Wow!! best of luck! As a father of 6 (5 at home and one in heaven) I can tell you there is no greater calling than to be a Dad! That's right. Any fool with a dick can be a father, but only a real man can be a Dad! Sorry for the profanity but it looses the effect with *asterisks* I feel for you jessie. I too lost a son, so I guess I am really father to five. You've got a full house there brother, stay strong!
