Having recently completed my Euro Pal collection for the second time I noticed that a handful of the games are NTSC. So do I actually have a complete Pal collection? I'm going to replace the Ntsc games for pal ones over the next couple of months before I start collecting the Ntsc North American exclusives but will I then have a complete NTSC collection? What do you guys think?

That is a very good question. I want a complete PAL and NTSC collection, but when I think about it, I want a complete NTSC collection with all the PAL titles included. I would not, for example, buy Michael Jacksons Moon Walker in NTSC AND PAL format, but rather only the NTSC copy to add to my collection. No sense in having two copies of the same game unless there was a significant reason or difference in the game.

I agree but as I only need to replace 8 Ntsc games (Common ones such as columns, afterburner etc..) I'm going to replace them with Pal but with the Ntsc games I'm going to stick to the exclusives only due to the high postage costs from the states!

The way I went, and it's both because I'm in Canada and because I prefer the English-only manuals and back artwork, is to go for a full US (NTSC would include JAP games as well...) and then starting buying all the European games afterwards. I'd also buy the Euro version of a US game I already owned if it had different artwork (like After Burner, RC Grand Prix, Moonwalker, etc.). Now that I have my collection and am content, really all that matters to me is that I have every PAL/US game out there, so whenever I get the urge to play a game, I can. Once you step away from collecting for a bit you realize that all the variants and everything don't really matter much, they just take up space!

I used to collect anything retro including consoles controllers etc.. but decided to concentrate fully on the SMS games this time around (Saves on space). Having completed my Pal collection and with there being few Ntsc exclusives to collect I'm now going down the route of collecting the different variants. This should keep me entertained for a while!

Don't mention the "US" Sonic, otherwise this thread will go psycho.

Hahahah. I've seen the same copy of the Sonic US Barcode variant on ebay for £100 starting bid but each time it remained unsold without a single bid. I wonder why!

I have a full US + Canadian set. My specifications are : A copy of the game with any box insert and any manual. To me, anything else is excessive.

Hahah, sorry for the lapse guys, we have a little girl now. Just got her started on some gaming a few weeks ago. She watched me play Gauntlet on the SMS.

Does anyone here class Sapo Xule and Gamebox Portuguese purple games towards a complete PAL collection? Just wondering as retrocollect.com now counts them towards a full set

Sure, they're licensed PAL releases, as is Mah-Jong. Without them it would just be a complete UK (or other major European country) set.

Yeah Ive always included Mahjong as well as it is PAL, thats why when I started collecting for a full PAL set I searched high and low for it to get it out of the way early. I've got that one and Sapo Xule, guess I will need the purple Gamebox Esportes aswell then

My opinion - PAL is Euro/Asian (Hong Kong) released games, Brazil may be considered a PAL territory but I consider them to be their own separate set of games/releases.
NTSC games are U.S. only. Can't include JAP games, they don't even fit in our western consoles!
