My guess is that he probably has a say somewhere and give occasional feedbacks, but that's a minor fraction of development. Day to day team takes a millions decisions. And again it is a guess, I just don't see it being any practical that he had more involvement. And Nishizawa has his own stuff to work on. I also mean that in the sense that we should give credits to the team making the new game. Those guys love the series so they'll hopefully do something cool it is what matter.

Interesting... I thought they had announced that Nishizawa was going to work with them in some capacity. This is what the publisher had to say when asked the question on the development blog: Nishizawa-san has an important advisory role, he isn't coding the game but he gives valuable feedback. So he has some involvement in providing feedback and direction for the project. It is also great that he is associating his name with the project and giving it his approval. I thought he couldn't get the rights to Wonderboy so its only a spiritual sequel? A bit like what Garriot is doing with his new Ultima game. I think it carries a bit more weight then just a spiritual successor. The main reason is that it has been officially licensed by LAT Corporation, who currently hold the copyright for the Wonder Boy series, which was previously owned by Nishizawa's company Westone (now bankrupt). Sega never had control of the copyright for the games, they just had control of the trademarked name 'Wonder Boy'. This is why Hudson was able to publish ports of the same games under different names such as Adventure Island, as they were licensed by Westone. Practically speaking it means they can officially use art, music and designs from the Wonder Boy series. Many examples of this can already be seen from the screenshots they have released. This is also true with the music as mentioned by the publisher on the development blog: Sakamoto-san isn't contributing new compositions but we're going to have some great re-arrange tracks based on his most popular Monster World tunes. Edit: Check out the latest post on the development blog of the pirate pig animation it is a good example of the licensing in action: monsterboy.com/blog/

Today I've met with the team, played some of the game and seen a few of the things in development (music, boss, characters..). I was impressed with the amount of stuff they've got in the game. It's shaping really good. Looking forward to play it even more!

Nope of course, can't hijack their marketing plan. The other good news is that my own Wonder Boy related project is moving well and I think I've found the right partners to make it happen. Stay tuned..

Great news, to bad they moved it to 2016. But now also Yuzo Koshiro ( Super Shinobi, Bare Knuckle Music ) also joined the team, which is awesome !
