I can honestly say I've given pretty much everything a go at one point or another. Even if its just sticking a game in for 5 minutes to see what it's like.
I've played some generic sports titles quite a bit. For some reason I really enjoyed Great Volleyball, Super Tennis also is actually a pretty good game.
I've always said I was a gamer first and collector second. There are a few games I know I won't feel the urge to play again but there doesn't seem any point in selling them for a few pound.
In contrast to that though the guy in that picture has clearly spent an absolute fortune on his habit. I say habit because with the amount he has it seems more like an addiction than a hobby.

Of course, its his life, totally up to him. He must have a really good job though and a really patient missus (if she exists)

I found myself playing "Great Volleyball" last week - it's a lot more fun than I'd have thought. I can't say that I'm any good at it, though. :) The only SMS games I own which I haven't yet played are the few which arrived this week/morning - I've been way too busy working on the code for my new SMS game. :D I'm slowly working my way through them.

Ive played all of my games, there are a few that just sit on the shelf, but I play those occasionaly. The only game Ive got that Ill never play again is some SNES NFL one which is awful and complicated, but its only worth a few£s so Im not gona get rid of it, I just use it in my converter.
As for Smurfs 2 I would guess that there must have been at least 250 released even if it was only a semi-official game, otherwise the costs would have been higher than potential profits, thus no point it being released at all.

If he has the spare money to spend on all those games then why not. Ive read about this guy before, people are quick to think he is a freak, but apparently his wife and kids all love games too.
To me people who only buy sealed games are a lot more wierd. At least this guy can play any of those games when he feels like. Theres people with complete collections for systems, with every game sealed, and they cant play them because it would loose all the value that they had to spend extra on getting them sealed.

At 250 made then it would have still been a loss, to make a profit they would have had to sell thousands. Its not just the cost of manufacture, but the cost of coding a sms version.

I mean that it just wouldnt make any sense to start with less than 250 as the first realese, most games are reprinted like books as the need arisses, I just thought that 250 is the very smallest number for a starting batch.

I'm curious: Why were so few copies made/released?

Looks like he doesn't. All the games are listed alphabetically and he has smurfs 1 but not smurfs 2. Theres a smurfs 2 on the bottom shelf I think...

Its a mystery, and one that may never be solved, unless somebody who programmed it ever finds out about our interest and can help. Perhaps theres a bug in the game somewhere, so it was pulled from production, has anybody actually completed the game?

I've done the first one and it's fecking great.

The game was probably released in very few quantity to check commercial viability, but a master system in 1996 definitely wouldn't sell so I guess they took all the copies of the few shops that received them. Maybe some were destroyed, others stored and the lasts ones lost within old stocks in small countryside video game shops

eh, lets have a Mah-Jong list instead Anyone with 200 quid to sling at eBay can get Smurfs 2 these days ;D There must have been far more than 250 made too - I'd say 1000 absolute minimum, but probably more. How many actually got distributed through whatever channels and what happened to any others are the more pertinent questions.
