With my NTSC collection nearly complete, I am thinking about moving into collecting other regions. Question is, what is your goal for your collection? With most collectors hailing from Europe, it seems a complete PAL collection is the common goal. How many collectors are after a complete, PAL, NTSC , Brazilian, Portuguese, etc. library? I never had interest in completing anything more than the North American collection, and various Euro titles I actually wanted to play. With the end in sight, should I keep going onto the next region? I know my wife would say no if I asked.

Personally I only have a goal to have an interesting collection that I enjoy playing. Certain bad games I wouldn't ever want to pay for and would only have around if they were given to me (Great Football, for a common example; ALF for a more rare one). My other goal is probably a more unusual one, and that is to collect relatively slowly. With that in mind, I don't particularly have an ending time/condition in mind, just enjoying as I go along and gradually get games now and again. I am also interested in many of the European releases but still have quite a few NTSC ones yet to get(I currently have 60 SMS games total).

I don't have a fixed goal other than that I want a bookshelf filled with Master System games that looks nice that I can both "rest my eyes on" and pick games from when I want to play. Gone a bit back and forth about a full PAL collection, but I have decided I don't need it and I can't justify paying the prices for the more expensive games for a complete collection.

I'm only going for a complete PAL collection. Its true that a few of the games can be quite expensive but there's always a chance to get them at low prices. Seen a Championship Hockey sell for £70 recently so there's chances out there. After I've achieved it all I might have a go at the Mega drive but the Game Gear is seeming most likely right now.

10 years is a long time ago! I can recall picking up a full set of 3D games with good as new boxed 3D glasses for just £50 back in 2003. It was the norm back then. How things change!

First i am aiming for the complete EU collection. I do it easy on and it pays off. I got games for so litle prices that i think "STRIKE"!. On the other hand , I am one of those persons crazy enoughf to give half a leg on a game when my collection becomes at the end of completing.
For the converstion above ... i once had the complete EU collection. Sold it but that is a other stoy. That was 4 to 5 years ago. Now that i am collecting again , i can not believe som prices these days. If prices stay rising like that on such a short time , take my word ... Most collectors wil not even be able to complete a collection unless they are hardcore collectors who have loads of money.

I have decided that collecting and gaming as a hobby should always be fun, the minute something is boring or annoying then its a chore and not a hobby anymore. So I looked at what is fun- getting bargains is fun, discovering new old games, meet ups, helping others and events were all fun too, so that's what I concentrate on. I would love to be able to get a full set, but would it fit in with everything else? I decided my everdrive would do enough. I modified my psp too so I have everything portable too. Others will not like what I chose to do but we all make different choices

My goal at first was also just a complete US set, but once I got that I started the Euro trek and found there were a lot of great games that never made it over here. Also did the same for Japan, and while the yields aren't are strong there (most of the good exclusives are in a language you can't read) there are still some really awesome JAP exclusives like Galactic Protector, Megumi Rescue, The Castle, Rygar and Alex Kidd: BMX Trial. Right now I have a complete US set, all the remaining games that were released in PAL, and about 75% of the JAP collection. I have a few more Tec Toy exclusives but that market has always felt a bit alien and expensive to me. Still, I'd like to get a few more of the exclusives that I'd actually like to play, and then round off my Japanese collection one day. As of now though, it's the law of diminishing returns - I have almost everything I'd ever want to play, and to get the remaining games it's going to cost an arm and a leg and a lot of hunting. Probably best to just enjoy what I've got.

I've been looking at the Tec Toy side and it seems way over priced

For me it is a complete Ozisoft set. Personally I'm aware and happy with the knowledge that going for a full set of anything means I'll end up with a fair few terrible games I won't play. I play the ones I do like on a regular basis though so as long as that continues I won't ever feel like one of those guys that's just hoarding sh*t for the sake of it.
Another really cool thing with the Ozisoft set too that makes it enjoyable for me is that there's still no definitive list of what was released by Ozisoft here in Australia. The one we've been working on here on the forums is pretty damn close by now though I'm sure - and it's a nice thing to have been able to contribute to this list. Given we got a lot of European imports here it's quite a tricky thing to do and at least to my knowledge there are no other collectors in the country who've gone to the stupid amount of trouble it takes to put together a complete lot of all games released by Ozisoft. For me that makes it a little more enticing!
I've also gone for a complete US set and am one short. I lived for awhile in Los Angeles and half my family lives there so that seemed a good enough reason for me. As for the other stuff such as Portuguese Purples or Korean games, etc, etc it's not something I care too much about completing - I get enjoyment and interest just by having a few examples of these on the shelf with my other games.

My SMS collection goal would be the same as the goal for all my collections: To acquire every game I wish to play, complete in box. By this standard, my SMS collection is almost "complete", because there's only a select few games I'm still looking for... ahem, if anyone wouldn't mind helping a poor American chump out with Master of Darkness!
