Yar, Choplifter..........
I always seem to get to stage 3 and die entering the tunnel. Re-spawn, die entering the tunnel. Re-spawn, die entering the tunnel. Game over.
What stage were you on for this score? I'll probably give this one a go sometime.

To Opa-Opa: I got it from my brother in law, who go it from a gy he bought his old old old 286/12 from waaaay back in the day... The flatbed cpu case would sit under the plastic arc and the heavy as lead monochrome monitor would sit on the that rather than crushing the heck outta the cpu case
To Mods: Choplifter has no completion, you must play... to the death (always your own!

Does this loop then? I was led to believe that there were just 6 rounds and then an ending screen ( a lame one too from what I hear . So does this game carry on and loop after Round 6?

I haven't played this one in quite a while but my childhood memories tell me that it looped.

Yeah, it loops but I'm not sure how many times.

I looped it once and got to the 6th stage again for sure... i always figured it looped infinitely like a lot of first gen games.

I've changed the rules accordingly, if anyone reaches the end of level 6 let me know if it still loops or if that's the end. This one's going in my playlist soon, seems pretty tough but looks like fun. I can only manage one shmup at a time .

I just played this on an emulator and you do get a cheap ending screen after stage 6 but it keeps going after the end screen and you can keep working on your score. I would actually call stage 7 the true loop seeing stage 4 is so different. Stage 5 is a little different but stage 6 seems pretty much the same. Once you hit stage 7 it's the exact same as the first stage but the enemies shoot faster. I went on to stage 14 just to see what would happen and oddly, there was no end screen the second time around but it did loop again. I read about the E.T. thing awhile back and really thought that was a mistake but in stage 5 sure enough there he was, or rather it was Elliott on his bike.

You looped it once and got back to stage 6 again? So you got to stage 12? Wouldn't your score be a lot higher having got to stage 12? Then again maybe not because I noticed sometimes I was getting a 100,000 bonus and other times not. What decides if you get 100,000 bonus at the end of a stage? I just watched a youtube video and the guy playing went to the ending screen. He only got the correct amount of men each time 16+16+8 and he seemed to be getting the 100,000 each time. I'm not doubting your score or anything, I'm just confused about how the scoring works. Edit: Now that I think about it I'm guessing the 100,000 bonus comes from not having any men die. I'm just guessing on that though, not sure if it's correct. Here's the video.

Are there different versions of Choplifter floating around? I've beaten stage 6 many a time now on Choplifter and have never gotten an ending screen. And in doing so again just to make sure I wasn't blocking out a bad memory of a cheap ending screen here's a new highscore. 459,400 Check out the very end of that second video above. You get a credits/end screen.

*watches vid* Ok, that screen! Yeah, mine has that. Yet another new high score. 517,600 Tried getting perfect bonuses for not killing POWs this time like in the vid, but only pulled it off twice! And for the record, of the first 6 stages, really only the Cave scene is a repeat, because the desert is obviously day/night with big differences in placement of SAMs and AA guns, but as well the ocean level has a pink sky (dusk I assume) the first time and a blue sky (day I assume) the second time, however the battleships are in the same positions but the underwater SAMs seem to fire much more frequently this time around.... The cave appears to be exactly the same each time. Attachments:

I think I assumed that it had 3 because if I remember right they only show the first 3 stages if you just let the game sit at the title screen and watch the demo or attract mode.

I know it's low, but it's all I can do atm. I'm getting better each day though ... damned cave level, haha. 225,100 After reading the picture requirement thread, I saw people asking to see the SMS along with the TV. I tried to get both in view for everyone to see.
