I've never played this one, don't even know what genre it is! ( ninjabearhug goes and has a quick look) Looks like fun, I'll give this one a blast when I get through my current playlist .

It's an odd game about a boy and his gun. Most people don't like it. If you do like it check out the arcade version sometime.

Most people don't like it. In that case I'll probably love it. I generally get addicted to games that most people think are terrible ;D.

Gave this a try earlier, fun little game! Those bouncing crocodile things are a right bugger to shoot ;D. I've only managed 201,000 so far but i'm gonna keep trying until I get a decent score, I'll upload a pic when I get something I'm happy with . What does the special bonus do? I touched a snail in the bonus round and it said "congratulations! Special Bonus! Don't touch the Denden". I don't have the manual for this so I'm clueless .

One thing that I guess the SMS version doesn't make obvious, is when you shoot stuff and they turn into little balls or whatever you get a higher score from picking up bunches of them at a time. You'll hear the sound of picking them up goes to a high pitch as you link a lot of them together in 1 pick up. That's a big key to getting a high score. In the arcade version when you pick up groups you can actually see the score. It's like Pac-Man sort of, the first one you pick up is like 100 but if you pick up five really close together it goes something like this. 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600. That's just an example I don't think that's the exact numbers but I know if you pick up a lot at one time in the arcade the score can go into the 1000's maybe 10,000's on the last one picked up. Still to this day I haven't figured out if the SMS bonus stages have a pattern. Seeing they're all dice it would almost make sense to not shoot a certain number or something but I have no idea. I know you want to get as many of the prizes without hitting many monsters cause they'll eat up your timer.

Just scored 238,810. I'm getting the hang of this now, hopefully I'll be able to complete it soon . Takes a while getting used to the Alex Kidd style controls too.

There's 50 rounds then it loops. This game would be extremely hard to loop without any cheats because the monsters like those gator heads are so random. I'd say half of this game is pure luck. Honestly, I'd be amazed to see anyone loop this game without cheats.

I've been toying with this on the first level. The maximum number of balls you seem to be able to collect is 8, as that is the maximum number of enemies on screen at any one time. If you manage all 8 at once you get 40,000 points, a nice little boost. The bonus's are always in the same boxes on every round. What you need to do is collect the same type of bonus consecutively for a bigger score. A green dragon is worth 10,000 for example but collect them both one after the other and you get 50,000 instead of 20,000. Same goes for all the other bonus items. Collecting the Denden wipes your score to 120pts and finishes the round instantly . Agreed, but it's definitely doable. The gator head things are a real pain in the ass but most levels they are in have decentish safe spots. I reckon it'll take me a few weeks of practise but I will finish this, hopefully I'll be able to max score it too . I'm still concentrating on perfecting the levels I've reached before attempting a proper high score run, watch this space .

I just played the first few stages a couple times on an emulator. Do you mean once you start a game the bonus items will be in the same place?. Like whatever pattern you get on the first bonus stage will be the same pattern on the second bonus stage? Because I just played to the first bonus stage and in the bottom row the number 2 dice was a snail then I reset the game and played again and this time the bottom row number 2 dice was a beer. lol, I'm thinking that white bonus item with the green on it is a pack of cigarettes. Beer and cigarettes these days would give Teddy Boy a rating of M for mature. I just checked, it is cigarettes. www.smspower.org/Scans/TeddyBoy-SMS-US-Card-Manual?gallerypage=8%2F9Also are you practicing by playing full games or are you using the round select to practice the later stages?

Hmmmm, interesting. I didn't switch the console off inbetween games when I was trying to figure out the bonus rounds, all the items were in the same place on different bonus levels in different games played though. I'll have to see if they are in the same place tonight, I'm at work at the minute . Starting from the beginning every time. I don't use cheats, not even for practise .

Maybe there is just a few setups for bonus items which would make one repeat quite often?
I don't mind if you wanted to practice using the round select. i just really wondered how you planned on practicing the later stages.

I've had a look into the bonus rounds to try and figure them out. It seems the placement of the objects each time you play a bonus round is random. However, here is some information you can use to help. Every round has the same layout (as above) that repeats. There are 20 boxes. There is 2 of every object (12 boxes). There are 3 denden snails and 5 time-eaters. The objects are: (1)Cigarettes (2)Beer (3)Red shoe (4)Blue shoe (5)Teddy bear (6)Dinosaur As there are only two (1) boxes, these will always match. There are three boxes for (2) (3) and (4), giving you a decentish chance of matching 2 in a row. There are four (5) boxes and five (6) boxes, meaning that these are most likely to contain time-eaters and denden. If you get a pair (2 in a row) for every number (in any order) without hitting any denden or time-eaters, you will get a 1,000,000 point bonus. Nice! I'll look into a bit more to see if there are any more patterns or ways of determining what's inside the boxes.

ian saves the day again with his matrix-esque code reading skills ;D.
1,000,000 points you say, I thought this would max out at 999,999. Wonder how high it goes?
